I was wondering from those experienced with cellaring, what would be your favorite relatively inexpensive beer to cellar, (inexpensive as in things coming in six packs at like 10-ish or a little over, or however you would define it), Just started my cellar, up to 44 bottles at the moment

I think its pretty difficult to find a good cellarable beer that comes in a 6-pk for around $10.

Generally the cheapest 4-pks you can get for around $10, and 6-pks around $15.

    Ones that jump to mind....

    Sierra Nevada 4-pks @ $10 - (Narwhal, Bigfoot)
Founders 4-pks @ $12- (Founders IS, Curmudgeon, etc)
    Bell's 6-pks @ $15- (Expedition, Third Coast)

I started from scratch like you about 2 years ago....looking at my cellar now, most of the stuff is in bombers, or 750-ml's, or are really expensive 4-pks. Unfortunetly most of the cellarable stuff that breweries release come in that format or are just priced real high.

Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout is great with about a year on it.
Storm King is a Russian Imperial Stout and is pretty good with age, I want to say the oldest bottle I had of it was two years old, maybe three, and it was drink well.

This. It is relatively inexpensive and tastes phenomenal with a few years on it. I have a vertical going back to 2006-if only I could find enough people to open it with I would be a happy man.

J.W. Lees Harvest Ale (12-13 years)
    Sierra Nevada Bigfoot (5 years)
Old Rasputin Imperial Stout (6 months-1year)
    Orval (1-3 years)
    Rochefort 10 (5 years)

these are said to be the most readily available beers for each style that ages best. In brackets are the peak ages.

    Also try:

    Saison Dupont (1 year)
    Aecht Schlenkerla Marzen (4-6 months)
Rodenbach Vintage (1 year after bottling which is 3 years after vintage date)

The Dupont is not necessarily better after a year, just different. I would buy a fresh case and drink it over a year.

I bought a case of Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout for $40ish bucks 1.5 years ago. I drank 1/2 of that case this past winter (that beer benefits from 1 year of aging) and I will drink the remaining 1/2 case over this winter and the next winter.

    Cheers!

Gouden Carolus Blau ages very well. I've had one with 4 years and it was sublime. Chummy Blue is also supposed to age well; however, I haven't experienced and aged bottle.

I would include Founders Breakfast Stout in here as well. And maybe buy a bottle or two of Devil Dancer for shits and giggles. I wouldn't touch those for at least a year though. I hate Devil Dancer fresh.

I had a five year old Bell's Cherry Stout a few months ago that I thought was pretty damn good. Enough so that I purchased another six pack of it for the sole purpose of aging.

One more worth getting is New Holland Dragon's Milk.
