Just for fun to compare lists...this is mine

    Town Hall
    Steel Toe
    Dangerous Man
    Indeed
    Liftbridge

    Honorable mention
Surly (4-6) somewhere in that range for me...could possibly replace liftbridge but they make the best beer in the state so its hard to take them out of the top 5

I can't argue with Hardywood as a choice for VA.
    DuClaw for MD though...haha....yikes. :grimacing:

On this site, Blakkr is the 14th highest rated beer brewed in Minnesota, besting all beers from all but one of the breweries you mentioned (some of that is due to small quantities of reviews, of course).

My current Minnesota top ten would be:

    1. Surly: Consistently great
    2. Town Hall: Consistently good
    3. Sisyphus: Strong in every style it tackles
    4. Fair State: Best sour program in the state and strong in other styles as well
    5. Dangerous Man: Inconsistent but top notch at its best
    6. Fitger's: Like Town Hall but with a lesser flagship IPA
    7. Steel Toe: Very good work but too few offerings
    8. Barley John's: The only brewery in the state that can make beer as good as the best of Surly (but a lot of mediocre stuff too)
    9. HammerHeart: Best smoked beer program in the Midwest to my knowledge
    10. Olvalde: Most creative brewery in the state but too few offerings

Indeed barely misses because its Wooden Soul program has been disappointing so far. Lift Bridge does some good work at higher gravities (imperial stout, double IPA, barleywine), but I find its standard offerings utterly unmemorable (the same could be said for Barley John's, but I think Barley John's reaches higher heights).

Good list..I do think sisyphus is making good strides but is still young and small but has a lot of potential and I haven't tried Fair states sours but its been on my list of beers to try...
For indeed I love Rum king, (I hear they have a stout in bourbon barrels) and their sour program while still in its infancy has a lot of potential as well!

I'd pick Maine over Allagash all day long. Every single MBC beer is at least very good. Had MO on tap the other day and was reminded that it is definitely better than Zombie Dust and better than the APAs I've had from Hill Farmstead or Trillium as well. If their pricing wasn't so painful...

    MA comments:
Trillium, Tree House, and Jacks Abby are the current Big 3 for sure. Each are located geographically to favor Western, Central, and Eastern MA beer geeks. Most BAs in the state are withing 2hrs of 2 out of the 3. I am a Trillium and Jack fan becuase of my proximity. I don't have enough access or live close enough to TH to call them the best brewey in MA. What little I have had puts them in the same class as my two go 2's

Very good list, except it is excluding de garde, goose island, and the bruery.

3 Floyd's is definitely best in Indiana. 18th Street is certainly making a name for themselves, though.

Jackie O's, Fat Heads, and let us not forget Brew Kettle in Ohio! Hoppin Frog makes some good, although overpriced beers, but the BEST in Ohio, no way.

@worldsworstextra The wording in the article indicated that Goose Island was eliminated from consideration & is no longer considered a craft brewery. With a brewery that produces BCBS & variants as well as the sisters that's bogus, imo, but it *is* Thrillist which is a run of the mill corporate pimp desperately trying to appear edgy.

Iowa was too easy. While some of the states were honestly controversial, for example Maine, Michigan & Colorado, other choices were just fucked up, ie Ohio & Maryland.

Duclaw? I don't think I would put them in my top 5 of breweries in Maryland. For me Union Craft Brewing is the best right now but the Eastern Shore breweries like RAR and Burley Oak are making a strong charge.

Wiseacre boomed Tennessee overnight the past couple months. They hit each major city within weeks of each other. Their low abv, coffee milk stout is amazing for what it is, Gotta Get Up To Get Down. It's the equivalent of Zombie Dust here, meaning it's a solid beer that a lot of people enjoy that isn't produced enough to meet demands. When it first hit in Knoxville you could find it at Ingles Supermarkets, Whole Foods, every craft bar, every bottle shop, etc. Now the only time you see it is the day it's delivered, then it quickly sells within the first day or two. Every time I go grab a beer at a craft bar you can just sit and count the people that come in and ask for it.

Dare I say their IPA, Ananda, is the best IPA made in the state of Tennessee. It's solid, drinkable, not too sweet or malty, and just enough hop flavor to keep coming back for more. If there is a better one made in Tennessee, I'd like to know about it. I'm not saying it's Sip of Sunshine or Heady, but it's one that stays in the fridge, which is saying a lot for me.

You can't really look at the reviews on here. I guess Tennessee is kind of a "dead state" for Beer Advocate raters. As an example, the milk stout only has 16 reviews on here. That's very small and kind of pointless to just go by ratings of 16 people.

I'm not a homer, I'm over 6 hours away from them. It's just cool to finally see a progressive brewery in this state that cans, makes solid beers, you can buy a 6 pack for under $8.50 at most places, and hits different styles for different folks. Their core lineup is a saison, pilsner, coffee milk stout, and IPA all in cans. They get a little freaky with some other styles and those come in bombers. Cheers.

Everything that Jackie o's puts out is great. Stouts, sours. ipas and barrel aged beers. Fatheads is great but you gotta be an ipa lover to think they are the best. Jackie o's all the way

No love for Westbrook here in S.C.....maybe if you put more of your beers on SHELVES instead of making me come to the brewrery.....

I'll still take Revolution, but I wouldn't argue too hard against either Half Acre or Pipeworks. All three are fantastic and you can't go wrong. Also, I have yet to have any of Pipeworks' fish series. Those, plus the recent cans, could make me reevaluate in the future.
