If they handle it the same way as wild peach, you'll show up, get a ticket with a number on it, and are free to do what you want until whatever time they decide to start selling. Then people will get back in line roughly in the order of their ticket number and you'll be able to buy your bottles. It's cool because for the people that get there early, they can leave and grab breakfast somewhere in town or hang out and bottle share without having to worry about losing their place in line.

For the last release, I don't think the tickets were numbered. No one left and came back (I don't think). When we got up to the money tent, the lines split up according to credit card or cash. I was able to skip a ton of people without cash. It's cool to get early to not just be promised beer, but to relax and share for a while.

Most mellow bottle releases I've ever attended.

Lakefront Black Friday was pretty good last year too. Besides the whole freezing temperatures.

I agree- there's nothing wrong with getting there early, if that's what you want to do. Last year I spent a few hours reading a book and sipping on a thermos of coffee (8am was a little too early for me to start sipping whales), the next day my family came along and we spent some time hanging out together.

For those not inclined to get there early, I think 8am is the sweetspot for Thursday/Friday, probably need to bump that up to 7am on Great Taste Saturday.

I only got to drive past that line on my way to work. :slight_frown:

Nah, people don't need to get there that early.
Saturday for Wild Peach, the whole line got through and Deb stood on the steps outside handing out tickets to people that came late. I don't remember the exact time, but I believe they ran out between 11-11:30.

Yup, I remember that too. No need to get there at the crack of dawn...I hope. Last year about the initial rush of people getting there around 8:30 or so the line grew really, really slowly after that.

And as mentioned, even latecomers received bottles. I'm hopeful that the (assumed) increase in bottle count this year will offset any increased interest & it will be similarly relaxed, with no need for middle-of-the-night arrivals.

Please don't say "You need to be there by 7AM" to get bottles. That's been far, far, far from the truth in the past & if repeated too often may become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I'm pretty sure I'll be going on Thursday. I'll try and bring a bottle of something good along to share in line. See y'all there.

Probably 11:45; I drove-up 2 hours from just south of the Wisconsin border at 9:30 and was lucky enough to get the last ticket...and I was floored just to be getting some pizza while sipping on Dancing Man at the brewery and bam, ticket!

It's been 2 years (unfortunately) since I made an R&D release, but at that point there was like 6 goobers bottle sharing. Am i to interpret this thread to mean its now basically everyone?

I actually really like the line experience at New Glarus. It's like tailgating but at the end you get more beer and no game. I get there around 7:30 and am either twords the front of the line or just on the hill depending on the day.

I'm gonna have to get some fake ID's for my kids and put a mustache on each of them for this one. It's such a shame I have to go to such great lengths just to get what I'm entitled to.

Amateurs. FIBs have beards surgically implanted on their sons & daughters (yes, it's all about the extra allotment after all) so they pass the fake facial hair line checkpoints.

Nothing against the practice of sharing a bottle of beer with a man/woman or 2, however (sarcasm, jestful statements to follow...) the concept of turning every bottle release, traffic jam, airport security line, communion procession, etc into a bottle share is just completely lost on me. That sort of thing just doesn't exist in the region I now live, and it certainly didn't exist those lovely years I spent in Madison.

So i'm mostly just trying to diagnose if I can show up at 9:30am, get some bottles, and go about my day like we used to.

All of those things must be more fun where you are. Ive only seen it at beer releases.
