That's good to know -- didn't realize about the difference between cellar and cooler. I was wondering how else they could seem to constantly "be out" of Cable Car, when I know them not to be and have enjoyed it many times. I've also noticed really out of date bottle lists before, like two months old, and that were different lists from what other people in the bar had. Any idea what's up with that?

Nope. But how many places have accurate bottle lists? I can't think of a single bar that I've been to more than once where the bottle list has always accurately represented what they have, and that includes many places in Belgium.

I had a buddy in town from the Midwest a couple Thursday's ago. Tried to get a Cable Car, but the bartender said they were out, so we ended up going with DDG (which he told us was the last bottle), which was $40. Ended up giving him a taste and he gave it to us for $35. They also had 2008 BCBS for $12. Had a couple there and took a couple home. We came back the following night and the same bartender was working. Turns out he found some 2010 Cable Car, which we ended up having ($40 as well). Also told us we could take home as much BCBS as we wanted after he told us it was a 1 bottle limit the night before. Guy was an asshole to some of the people around us, but super nice to us.

You guys have left me thoroughly intimidated for my first visit to Toronado, which I hope will take place over the next few days.

There's no reason to be intimidated. It's not like they'll punch you and throw you out. It's just not that impressive of a bar.

Haha, I wasn't too worried. I just have to decide whether to skip it or not, since I have limited beer stops.

So will they have CC and DDG on the anniversary?

They almost always have CC on tap. Haven't seen DDG at one in a long time, if ever. If the new batch is ready, maybe. Older Viscosity on tap is more common.

They sold bottles of DDG for on site consumption or to go at the 09 party for $40. Cable Car has been there every year with the exception of last year's party. The 2010 version wasn't ready for prime time.

Untrue -- I had CC on tap last year, and it was delicious. They were supposed to have Kriek, but it wasn't ready yet. It got released in November or December.

I should clarify a new batch has been available every year but 2011.

This. Hoping it's Kriek again this year.

instead of worrying about what kind of wales you can walk out with, maybe you could just show up and... i dunno... drink some good beer? somehow i enjoy myself when i try things like that.

But then you don't get the full experience of receiving bad service when all you do is ask if they have Cable Car.

Though I have to echo ipa247's comments about Beer Revolution. I like the Toronado for the history, but the tap list isn't generally very interesting. I also like the proximity of The Trappist to Beer Rev. Makes for a nice double whammy.

No offense to my bay area ba's but I like to enjoy my beers with my family. I will take your suggestion though and go and enjoy some brews.
