Sounds great to me! I should be back again sometime in the fall. I'd be happy to do an IP trade.

We have not had an JA in a few months, early April or May I believe was the last I have seen it in cans. If people have it on draft it is probably just as old and way past its prime. I have seem CCB Manduro and White Cracker around, but they are not the greatest.

They are still doing construction on 65 (north of the I20/59 interchange). They are bringing I22 into 65 and sometimes they shut down a lane or two on 65. It is mostly on weekends when this occurs, so just check the ALDOT traffic alerts prior to your trip.

Also Hop City almost always has Snake on draft. It is very rare they don't have it.

Saw on Cigar City's Instagram they were canning some Jai Alai yesterday. Hopefully we will see it in Alabama in a week or 2 and you can grab some before you leave.

I was in B-ham about 2 weeks back and visited Hop City. No Jai Alai when I went, but I was able to scoop up Good people IPA, Monkeynaught by straight to ale, some Bells and Westbrook, that I cant get here in New Orleans was nice. There was regular Sculpin in cans, but Grapefruit and Habanero were bottles only. The thing that concerns me at Hop City is some stuff had some old dates, so look at the dates on your IPA's for sure.

I also stopped by a Piggly wiggly in Homewood on the way out that had a very good selection. I'm surprised nobody mentioned that place.

There are several Piggly Wiggly's in town and they all have a good selection of beer. Western Supermarkets in town do also. Cannot get growlers at the grocery stores, but it is great for packaged beers

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I always check the dates. The one I had trouble with last time was Terrapin. I couldn't find a date anywhere on the box. I know the individual cans are dated but that doesn't reallly help when you're picking up a sealed 6-pack.

I'll have to stop by a Piggly Wiggly just to check it out.

I checked their list and it's on there. I'm excited about trying that one.

I'd be interested in Manduro as I really like Brown Ales. Hopefully I'll see that one somewhere.

I'm back from my trip to Tuscaloosa/Birmingham. Thanks again for everyone's help. I came back with enough beer to last me for a long time

    - Good People IPA
    - Cigar City Maduro
    - Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin (Hop City had cans! Yay!)
    - Terrapin Hopsecutioner
    - Terrapin Hi-5
    - Ballast Point Victory At Sea
    - Straight To Ale Monkenaught

I shopped at Hop City, Spirits Wine Cellar (Rice Mine Rd), Western Market (the one near Hop City that you can see from the freeway), and Piggly Wiggly. I wanted to try this place called Vulcan Spirits but I ran out of time. They advertise on their site that they have the largest selection of beer in the state of AL, so maybe I'll get there on my next visit.

I also stopped at Liquor Barn in Louisville and picked up a few things not available in Indy:

    - Deschutes Fresh Squeezed
    - Rhinegeist Truth

I had a pint of Snake Handler while at Hop City. Great stuff! I know this is only canned once per year so I'm going to have to make an effort to get down there the next time it's canned.

Everything I bought was very fresh and I was happy that Terrapin has dates on the boxes this time around. Perhaps I just got a rogue box last time that didn't get stamped. Either way, I'm looking forward to comparing Hi-5 with Hopsecutioner.

Thanks again everyone! I love visiting your state!

It is Vulcan Beverage not Spirits and it is super shady. It used to be the only store in town, but since Hop City has opened they can no longer make the claim of largest selection. It is seriously a shady store in a shady area. Right next to the Western on Highland is Highland Package, they have a large selection also
