I see no reason to rejoice over this news. Zero.

Vinnin Liquors is in Swampscott; solid liquor store imo. Competition is good but I hope one doesn't eat the other.

Totally agree. Vinnin has a great selection and the best prices I've found anywhere in the state. Locals will benefit from additional offerings at CBC but Vinnin will keep most of my business based on their superior pricing (and excellent service/knowledge from their beer guys)

Not a ton of love for CBC among BAs, is there?

I like them, they've always been friendly to me. I think a lot of BA's get annoyed by their prices and how they handle releases. I've seen them described as more of a beer boutique than a liquor store, which can certainly turn some people off.

I like CBC as well. They have a broad selection and knowledgable staff. They won't get the bulk of my business, however, because my local packie is much cheaper and has a great selection and knowledgeable staff as well.

I used to support CBC because I believed in the "support small brewers" mission.

That is no longer the mission there; so now I treat them like any other package store.

They have a one 4 pack limit on Heady, so I love 'em!

I can certainly understand not wanting to pay high prices. But what I like about CBC is that if you want to try it and it's distroed in Mass, chances are good they'll have it. I've found that's not always the case even with Julio's.

Can't wait for the next thread.....Craft Beer Cellar Coming to My Actual Cellar. Seems like one is opening in every MA town these days.

Fun fact: to this point craft competition always eats into it's own market. Session IPAs have just taken share from regular and double IPAs. The growth is real but the options only shuffle percentages.

Is there a ton of love for ANYTHING among BAs? Even the places they/we like, the lines are too long, the limits are too high or too low, they don't have a cash only line, the people who work there have obnoxious haircuts...

I haven't seen studies but I have to imagine this is a stretch of the truth. Because of the growth, the new options would almost have to be eating into the share of the growth. It wouldn't necessarily surprise me if most of the people drinking sessions used to primarily drink other IPAs, but some % of the new drinkers have to also be session drinkers (whether they'd be IPA drinkers either way may be the question and the crux of your argument).

I'm curious to know the location being that they'll need to draw in people from Lynn, Marblehead and elsewhere ...

Word around town is that CBC will be located in Vinnin Square (the main shopping district on a route 1A)

The only real advantage of shopping at CBC vs. other liquor stores is that you can buy singles of anything there which I think is quite nice. Not a lot of places do that and I find that to be a pretty awesome perk. That being said, for the most part, that's about it. Sure their staff is knowledgable but good luck trying to get any of the limited allocation stuff there.

Vinnin Liquors has the same policy and it sounds like they'll be neighbors. I'm a huge fan of Vinnin Liquors - probably won't be visiting CBC.

So, I'm resurrecting this thread because my buddy, a Swampscott resident, got a notice in the mail from the board of selectmen of a public hearing Wednesday night at Swampscott High regarding CBC Swampscott's application for a license to have on-premises consumption. Interesting...

Really wish we could buy growler fills in liquor stores here. I have a friend in NY who gets some really awesome stuff on raft that he later brings back up and shares. Such a great concept
