A couple beers come to mind for me: PseudoSue and Fresh Squeezed. I had Sue at the pub and was disappointed, but a few weeks later I opened a bottle that I had bought a few days before I was at the pub, and I loved it. A little extra time on Sue in the bottle vs. drinking it fresh at the pub makes a big difference.

Not the same with Fresh Squeezed. I had it on tap in Portland, and bought some bottles that same week. It's a good beer, but it didn't live up to the hype.

I initially had trouble coming up with a beer that I thought underachieved, but I think I'm with you on the Dark Lord. Don't get me wrong, they're solid stouts, but the last couple I've had have tended to have a bit of a soy sauce-flavor thing going on.

Ghandi Bot. Thought it was really good obviously, but it wasn't as good as the hype. There's plenty better, but like most palates are different.

After trying a few of my buddy's homebrews, I'm no longer excited to try them.

You won't hear screaming from me. Pliny is overated and limbo is better...imo of course.
Other half hop showers was a pretty big letdown too

I know I risk being crucified for saying this, but Heady Topper. Don't get me wrong, it is a very good beer, but I did not find that it remotely lived up to the hype. This is in comparison to Pliny which I thought lived up to the hype and then some. I do realize it's about personal taste though and there are probably way more people out there that had the opposite reaction to Heady.

Biggest overrated beers for me this year
    1. Heady - It was good, but not mind-blowing
    2. Hopslam - Not just a disappointment, but I really don't like it
    3. Dark Lord - This was the one I was dying for. Everyone says you have to age it, mine was only a year old. I may revisit this, but I doubt it.

MBCP. There, I said it. It was just too thin and not complex enough for me.

I agree. It's good but there are just as many good if not better ales at my local beer shop. I have a few more zombies in my fridge. I know I will get to them eventually, but I am in no rush

Just had Omega Point. Seriously bummed. I traded for it, was super excited, and the oxidation was just crushingly overwhelming. No bueno in my book.

Would love to make a trade for it! It's one of those beers on my bucket list. If ever interested hit me up and maybe we can work something out.

Agree don't get it, especially at $9 a bottle. Even at half that it's not so great, needs mores pepper.

The Abyss- BARE WITH ME A SECOND... I think it sucked because it was on nitro. Tasted like a flat, unsweetened chocolate soda.

Bigfoot (SN) - This comes from more of an amateur perspective. I was only 21, and my uncles would always be stoked for January, when this beer comes out. I tried it expecting something totally different, and got something exceptionally bitter and sweet at the same time. Not saying it's a bad beer, but it wasn't for me. Haven't tried it since I was 21 though.

hey man, i have discussed this with a few people, but i'm convinced heady has changed over the years. i have pictures from 2 years ago and from last Fall, and the beer changed color. identical lighting on my kitchen counter at night, with no ambient lighting differences. sounds wonky, i know.
i'll let you know about the julius.

Jester King barrel aged black metal imperial farmhouse stout. It tasted like neglect. And abuse.

I'm going to agree and disagree. The first batch of PtY I had in 2011 was my finest beer experience to date. The batch I had @ RR in 2014 was underwhelming. Both times I've had Notorious it's been stellar.

While I found Heady to be good, there's lots other options I'd take over it including Pallet Jack, Hop Venom, IBUsive, Nelson (not Nelson*), KRBC Citra, and KRBC 5th Anniv/Winter Ale. YMMV

Interesting! Maybe there is something to that then. I will be curious to try again in the future, but definitely won't be hunting it down anymore.

Heady Topper. It was a year old, so hopefully that had everything to do with it, because I didn't even think it was good, let alone great.

I agree completely, when I had KBS earlier this year I was less than impressed. Had another bottle last week, and it blew me away. Time definitely helped this beer! Hoping more time only continues to improve it!

You guys ever try Xmas Bomb? I like the regular one, but love the Xmas version. Definitely seemed to have more spice, so maybe it'd be more up your alley.
