Alpha #4 was still comfortably on as of 2pm today. Just a heads up. Place was packed though ...

Had alpha 4 today, and wasn't too impressed.. guess i'm just really not a fan of mosaic hops. I get a really weird vegetal character from them (maybe it's a bit of the papaya). The aroma was awesome especially as it warmed, but just something didn't sit quite right with me for the flavor. Really dug the featherweight(again) though on a different note. I also had honeyman at falling rock on friday.. and damn that's a tasty beverage.

I've found that the more hops used, the more I get the "material" of the hop. Not sure how to describe it, but it's the "leafy" flavor rather than the oil/juice, if you will. It doesn't seem to be any particular hop, just the amount used. Make sense? No? I'll drink to that :astonished:

I would use Mosiac as snuff given the chance! :stuck_out_tongue:

Made my first trip to Cannonball Creek today and I agree with @bfields4. I really like Featherweight and the Lionel variants. Alpha #4 smelled like it was going to be the greatest thing ever, but I don't think it holds up to Superpower on the palate. It's more bitter and has more of a grapefruit rind note. While that isn't a bad thing, I don't think it keeps my interest like Superpower does. While probably overlooked by the hopheads, their other beers (saison, Belgian gold, stout, etc.) were all really good. Featherweight is something special, though. Liked that one a LOT.

Completely agree. And honestly - in my opinion their Prison Bound Pale is even better than Featherweight. The next time that I see Prison Bound on, I will probably be doing 80mph on 6 the entire way to get my fix.

Hmm... I'm going to have to give superpower another chance

Also of note, after finishing a growler of Alpha I have to say that the weight of it was a little disappointing. Not even sure if that's the right terminology, but it seemed like the greatest session IPA ever... With 7.0 abv to my dome.

In talking with one of their bartenders last week it was pointed out that Featherweight was a finalist for GABF in the IPA category. I still prefer AP 4 and I do think Superpower is #1 in the state (top 20 in the nation?) but knocking back a couple AP 4's after work is quite enjoyable!

Not on the thread's topic, but at their 2nd birthday party I had a Neapolitan Porter flight that was straight bonkers!!

Stopped by Cannonball Creek yesterday and had a couple pours of Project Alpha #4. It's a fantastic beer!! And for $13, I filled my 32 oz growler and will be enjoying that beer again this week :grinning:

Yes my disappointment a couple weeks back at no Alpha #4 (still haven't had, didn't make it up this weekend) was almost immediately extinguished by the Prison Bound Pale that they suggested I try.

Correction, I believe the Mindbender was the beer that was a finalist. My apologies!

Went for a long hot mtn bike ride in Lyons this saturday and afterwards my buddy pulled out an Eddyline Crank Yanker tallboy for me. Gotta admit it was hot and i was tired and was expecting to hate it but I really liked it. Grabbed a 6 pack of River Runner tallboys yesterday and yes I know its a pale but its damn good. Not on Comrade or Cannonball level but a 6er of tallboys is $11.50(thats right at 96oz) and pretty damn good. I went and got another 6er tonight. Didn't Eddyline get an old OB brewer? If you haven't tried em in a while you may want to revisit em.

I have had mixed results with Eddyline. I chalk up the variance in quality to age (the beer's age, not mine), but a Crank Yanker tallboy can definitely hit the spot on occasion.

On another IPA note, I cracked open a Hop Savant Galaxy tonight and hot damn! is that stuff delicious. I think the Galaxy is my favorite of the recent Hop Savant releases.

I'm a big Eddyline fan. They expanded their operations from their brewpub into a larger facility about a year ago. Hence their cans are a lot more common. Never had anything bad before, but if there were any issues I'd assume they're probably long gone now. Crank Yanker and River Runners are some of my favorite packaged pales in the state.

If anyone wants to take the scenic route to Casey - it's really easy to hit them up in Buena Vista, take Independence Pass over to Aspen Brewing, and then head into Glenwood Springs via the back way.

I sure hope they keep this flowing!

Okay, I'll shut up about PA4 now
