    Follow-up...

Got that can of kvass - 0.5% abv...
Tasted like prune juice cola with molasses, black cherry, vanilla, and beets.

Not likely the "craft" version of the drink, but probably more like the Bud or Coke of the kvass family.
Enjoyable, but I can't imagine any permutation of this being so vastly different that I'd explore the drink further.

    *drumroll*

    I need 1 of these 5 to hit 100...

Unblended lambic - a rare bird apparently - the LambickX @alexsergio saw was gone in Hicksville, and I haven't seen it elsewhere...
English Pale Mild - the website @1Sundown2C suggested was out of the Tallgrass - I don't think there's any of this style around here, like, ever...
Roggenbier - I know I've seen Rogue's in the past, but at this point I don't think there's any around here - maybe something pops up in the fall? Sounds like more an autumn or winter beer.
Happoshu - maybe I'll come across it in a Japanese restaurant... :sunglasses:
English dark mild - I'm hoping this'll be my ticket to 100 - I'm counting on either SA's Ruby Mild or GI's Mild Winter to make an appearance this fall.

    And yeah, Nassau.

lol - yeah - I'm not even going for that - at least not in the foreseeable future... :stuck_out_tongue:
Nah - not at all - place I mentioned in my mega-post  above
For the record, there was a little hiccup in the process - when I went to the website on Tuesday to see if I could check on my order status (there was no e-mail confirmation), the site had a message that there was a problem with my order. Called, spoke to Alex (who, appropriately, had a Russian accent :grinning:), and he checked into it. Don't know what it was but he said my order was on the way and I should have it in a couple of days, and I did

They had a few different kvass to choose from, but I suspect they're all of fairly similar caliber.

    Cheers... :sunglasses:

If you ever find yourself in Manhattan soon, look for Sixpoint Growler Dark Mild. Had it today at Swift Hibernian Lounge. It's also right now at its namesake (I suppose), Growler Bites and Brews.

I saw bottles of Lambickx at DeCicco's in Armonk about two weeks ago. I couldn't tell you if it was the Unblended or Kriek (or possibly both) but I definitely remember seeing it on the shelf. Worth giving them a call to ask if they still have it, if it's not too far of a drive for you. Everyone in the beer department was super helpful when I was there.

Unblended lambic - Lambickx does appear (maybe rarely) on tap here. Cantillon is another option... perhaps accessible via mail order.

Roggenbier - Flying Dog Roggen is a rare tap option.

Happoshu - I managed to find Coedo's Beniaka at a Sushi restaurant by searching for the beer name + menupages or something online... then calling to see if accurate. They stopped importing this beer to the US, so it's getting rarer, and what's left is getting older. It's a great beer but I think it's very different from a typical happoshu.

Pale Mild - Your best bet is splurging for a $20 bottle of Evil Twin's XXX Imperial Mild. This is available on the island, and I'd grab it while you can. You'll have to decide if it'll "count" for you because it's listed here as an ESB (I'm guessing because of its ABV). I'd call it a pale mild instead even if it's imperial. I think the color might have been on that borderline between "pale" and "dark," but in cases like that I tend to think "pale." It's a great beer. Another option is Greenpoint's Bubble and Squeak. It's a rare find, and would normally be at Dirck in Brooklyn, but Beverage Barn East Meadow appears to always have some Greenpoint for growlers... so there's a small chance it'll show there someday. This beer doesn't appear to be on BeerAdvocate.

Dark Mild - Yeah, this is a good bet for your #100. I think Goose Island's Mild Winter was discontinued. You can get a dark mild if you have a chance to have a beer in NYC (and it'll be much better than Sam Adams disappointing Ruby Mild). Wandering Star Mild at Heart and Flagship Dark Mild appear on tap often enough. Even better, go with a Sixpoint option - but you'll need a road map to figure those out (which I'll provide now  ). Growler Darrrk (listed here as The Growler Dark Mild) at The Growler Bites and Brews is the same beer as Dark Mild at Swift Hibernian Lounge. Dead Rabbit has the Dead Rabbit Dark (not listed on BA). Finally, Sixpoint's The Incredible Mild is incorrectly listed here as an American Amber and there's also an incorrectly named "Incredibly Mild" listed here... but properly categorized as an English dark mild in that case. (I warned you  ). Barrier has two options here on LI - Molly Coddle and Baron Von Rifler. I'm gonna guess that Rifler is incorrectly listed here as Baron War Rifler, but I don't know. That beer is listed here as an American Black Ale, but I believe the brewers called it an "india dark mild ale" and it's listed as a mild on Untappd... so each listing makes sense if the beer is a hybrid of the two styles. It might be a long time before Barrier brews either again... who knows.

With all the junk above, somethings gotta be helpful I hope!

You can see from all of the above confusion about mild ales, that one of the difficulties of your quest is that people enter beer info into databases incorrectly... or they at least make a tough call if a beer straddles multiple options. (And then there's the case where a brewer's claims about what style their beer belongs to aren't even proper - but that's another thing entirely). In the case of milds, there aren't enough interested people familiar with the beers to correct what mistakes might be out there. If you are sticking with how beers are listed here, you can always request a change to the listing if you feel that it is warranted.

    Good luck.

Well, 99 styles of beer, but that magical 100 is pulling away now.

My hope to grab a Ruby Mild or Mild Winter (for an English dark mild tick) has evaporated... The Ruby Mild was a one-off for their Harvest Pack last year, and it isn't in this year's Pack. The GI website says that their Mild Winter is not being brewed. The Rogue Roguenbier (roggenbier tick)may or may not come around again - maybe something or other will show up this fall, but I'm not holding my breath. With the LambickX selling out locally, I am similarly out-of-luck with unblended lambics. I may have to start calling Japanese restaurants to see about Happoshu, since I have never seen or heard of any English pale mild beers around here.

    Boy, tickin' ain't easy... :slight_frown:
