I am pretty sure on tweeter that it was confirmed that Todd the Axe Man would be a seasonal release in cans.

Is Todd trading well? Just curious...

I knew that dude's "one and done" scuttlebutt post would cause confusion.

I'm assuming it is more of a long-term trading partner #gopickitupformebro sorta of thing, but I'm sure there is some interest

I've had some significant variations with tappings. Not sure if there are other factors (age, tap lines) at play but the first Todd I had was the best. Maybe it just made such a strong impression that I remember it that way. That was on tap at Whistle Binkie's in Rochester this spring-ish (maybe later winter). I've had it at the brewery since then, and also back at Binkie's in Roch. The last glass I had was a step below the first few. I'll assume it was an age issue, and hopefully I'll get my hands on some cans in the next week or so.

For what it's worth, Surly's website has Todd under "occasional" instead of "seasonal". Maybe that doesn't mean much.

I had Todd and Fulton's Batch 300 back to back last night. The aroma and taste of Todd cans are leaps and bounds above 300, but the carbonation and moreso the head and lacing were off (yes I'll be that guy), especially the head and lacing. 300 was way better on this. It's too bad I couldn't combine the positive aspects of both. After the pour Todd looked like the pics on this thread, and 60 seconds later there was zero head. Don't get me wrong, I don't think there's a better IPA that I can get right now at any random liquor store in MN.

Yeah I think that was more of a reference to when it was tap only.

Just had my first can last night. Guess this is where I take off my skeptics hat and jump on the hype-train. After my first experience trying Todd on D-Day I was prepared to be underwhelmed, but I was definitely whelmed to my satisfaction. Would be great if they have canning runs of this and Abrasive in the future relatively close, to do a side-by-side of fresh cans. They bring different things to the table but would be interesting to compare and contrast.

I don't really get too caught up in ranking my IPA's. I think most of us will agree there are many outstanding IPA's and we will happily drink all of them. I drank a four pack of the outstanding and delicious Axe Man Monday night and would do it again tonight except I have batch 300, double day tripper and oracle in my way.

Well, I consider Growlers, and Crowlers, and those small 750ml growlers packaged beer, so actually Mn brewers can sell packaged beer from their breweries. They can also sell 750ml, crown top, or corked bottles from their breweries as well. That is as long as they aren't too big a brewery barrel wise.

I am just finishing my first can, and flavor and aroma are top notch. However, carbonation is a little off. Definitely not flat, but no noticeable head 20 seconds after initial pour.

My first can was lower on carbonation too. Amazing otherwise.

I was randomly in Maple Grove for work this afternoon and stopped by the Costco there afterwards to pick up a couple of things. Boy am I glad I did--they have a big cooler full of Todd for $14.49 per 4 pack.

St. Louis Park Costco has about a 1/3 a cooler of Todd at $13.98 a 4 pack...cheaper than Liquor Boy at $15.99

Yeah, carb is off but it's still really solid. I poured the can into a spiegelau IPA glass and there was maybe 1/2" of head. I can see carbonation in the beer so it's not completely devoid of carb. I got 7/23 cans. Waves of grapefruit in this beer.

Well, you know, or if you live in StP, 20 min from Hudson. For some time Sue was not all that hard to come by. Easier than FFF stuff lol.

And of course this beer has been in the market, on draught for months, literally.

Wait, what? The can design is cost prohibitive? I cut loose a little bit tonight, so maybe I'm a lot fuzzy, I just don't understand what your point is here. Investment in can design? Is that even a thing a brewery who cans most of their offerings considers when rolling out a new "packaged" product? I mean, they are in the business of selling beer to people, how is package design a roadblock?

I got 7/23 as well...I'm not sure I would say carbonation is off....definitely not charged up...Lower carbonation than most I would say and I actually prefer it on the lower end (not flat of course and this is definitely not flat)...despite the many comments here I actually like it like this..

Just had my first can, dated 7/16. As damn delicious as I remember it on tap at the brewery! Citra, Mosaic, Golden Promise...LET'S GO!! :grinning:
