I was just about to purchase a bottle of Three Floyds Deesko off ebay (only 600 bottles), but pretty much everything was removed from ebay except for some Three Floyds stickers and t-shirts. Tis a shame, as I will most likely never have a chance to try it now.

Would you have bought 5 if you did not intend to trade them? If so, and the allotment was 5 I have no issue with that. I know not everyone is going to agree with this, many want their cake and eat it too, but I believe there should be a certain level of respect shown to others if you want to claim that you are part of a community.

oh yea for sure. and I didnt know anything about it or its trade value when I bought it. I had intentions of drinking them, but I kept using them to get the big RR sours, Pliny, and others until I was down to my last.

I bet there are some Three Floyd regulars who are saying the same thing after they missed out at the pub because others bought bottles for no other reason than to sell or trade.Tis a shame.

Im honestly torn on it. When I got started in the beer world, I didnt know about trading on here and I had no way of getting some of the rarer stuff. Therefore, I bought several things from eBay. Knowing what I know now, Im not proud of it, but im not ashamed of it either. I paid less than what things go for now (WAY less) and even at the lower end back then. It gave me the opportunity to get my hands on some things for tastings that I would never have had otherwise. I was and am satisfied with what I bought. Do I sometimes still get things from eBay? Yup. Am I smarter about what I buy? Quite a bit.

Im torn because I know that people are buying everything they can to sell them at inflated prices and people are missing out on releases. I feel that eBay should still allow beer to be sold, but in order for it to be considered "collectable", the bottles should be a minimum of one year old.

You will not stand for? Does this mean you plan on stopping every person who brings mules just to take care of trading partners or those looking just to trade it for something better? I feel the same way about people getting screwed when they wait in line for hours trying to get a beer but there is honestly not much that can be done. To be honest the only way to get rid of this happen is to stop the limited releases and sadly I don't see that happening. But that is just my two cents what do I know.

I share virtually everything I obtain. I share the bottles I open. I send bottles to other people that THEY enjoy, and usually share with others. Then what I get BACK in trade, I share. I'm sorry, but if sharing beer with as many people as I can isn't advicacy...then quite frankly I don't give a shit. *shrug* I'll attend a release for something I'm not intersted in and mule for those that are. Entirely too many hurt feelings about how beer makes its way into the hands of the ultimate drinker. Get rid of eBay, Craigslist, and online trading, and people would just be pissed that you bought a full allotment for your own selfish consumptikn at the expense of someone else that got none. Truth is...there will always be someone with something to bitch about. Most people here drink the finest beer on earth. And when they miss out on one offering, they simply go to their cellar and grab one of the myriad great beers they already possess. Greater tragedies in life.

Same here, and Kzoo.... if you send me some crazy stuff, you can rest-assured that Bill and those other crazies around here will have an opportunity to try it!

I feel guilty opening off-the-shelf stuff that is from out of our distribution area without sharing it with other local BAs.

Screwed. I find that amusing. People with free time to burn, and money to burn...on beer...getting "screwed." But yeah, they should stop all the limited releases. That way NO ONE gets to enjoy it. Limited releases create more buzz for a brewery than anything else. It should be a good buzz...but with all the butthurt...I'm sure brewers sometimes if it's worth it.

If ebay really no longer allows beer sales I will be overjoyed for two reasons. 1. It will take away some of the quite outrageous "value" that some people give to certain rare beers. 2. I will no longer be able to browse said rare beers and just look at the beer I would love to try but never will because I don't have the whales to trade for them and I don't buy things from ebay.

Not to mention it might help with the whole buying beers just to sell them at a markup on ebay. Though I'm sure those people will just find new ways to go about it.

I think one of my great joys is sharing it. And...about getting shutout...It never really happens. Even when I can't score something from a release, odds are, I'll still get to try it sooner or later. How? Because I know a bunch of other beer geeks that get their hands on good beer and share with their buds just like I do. Just like we all do.

Call it what you want but if you wait in line for hours and you miss out on a beer you truly enjoy because some jack ass brought 5 friends with him just so he can get 5x as much as someone else is pretty much getting screw. And 5 is just an example. A good way to still create buzz and have limited releases is just don't bottle it and release kegs of it over time or on special occasions. I don't it seems like the Breweries try and accommodate everyone but in the end someone just isn't happy.
