And Jester King and Fantome. What's wrong with putting certain styles in green bottles? It's not like they're going to package hoppy stuff.

There's gotta be something to complain about I suppose

Heineken is not a hoppy beer and it certainly gets skunked. I understand why Jester King is doing it, but I disagree with him that the skunked flavor is part of what makes those classic saisons so good. I love that Saison DuPont recently swiched to brown bottles, the beer is so much better that way.

Heineken tastes skunky from a can, too.

Either way no worries; more bottles for the rest of us.

Check-out the review by Philly Inquirer Restaurant Critic, Craig Laban, in today's Sunday Inquirer.

    http://www.philly.com/philly/food/20150802_LaBan_review_Tired_Hands_Fermentaria.html

Craig does love Jean's beers and I would say, he gave an overall positive, but objective review of the food available and served at Fermentaria. I need to find out from Jean when it will be the first of many times that someone will be bringing the picture of him that appeared in the article to either location seeking an autograph.

Is the pic of the fried chicken what you actually get?

    Yep.

I should note that the second time I went and got the chicken, it was exactly as Laban and others here have described. Nothing like the lightly coated, incredible dish I had the first time. I left a pile of fried breading on my plate that I just couldn't eat. Huge letdown. So this one sounds like it's one of the consistency issues they need to work out, and kind of soon because the fried chicken seems to be their signature "big plate" dish.

Well the picture was what - 3 pieces? I thought that might be half the order. Sorry to hear it was a letdown. To be honest, I am not sure I understood the fit there to be honest. I can see wings since a lot of beers naturally go well with the heat or spice that can be in wings. But fried chicken doesn't seem to be a real fit. I guess the saisons could pair, but I would normally see that with chicken that was not fried. The foodies certainly know better than me, but I can't say too many other brew pubs or craft places have fried chicken so I found that one somewhat curious.

There are 4 pieces in that picture if you look closely, I had initially thought there were 3 but the big one in the middle has a 4th piece peeking out from underneath. Every order I've seen in person - which is quite a few since the servers always seem to be walking orders out - is 4 pieces.

The thick, heavy breading does not pair well with beer. The good order I had with the thinner breading let the marinade flavors come through more, and the breading itself had a good savory flavor to it. I thought it paired very well with the saisons. Ancestral was on at the time and it was actually an excellent pairing, but you definitely want something higher in alcohol and with something extra, either adjunct spicing or souring/funk, to pair with it so the beer flavor isn't drowned out. However, I can't picture hops going with it at all - save those for the tacos.

Thanks, that is exactly what I was thinking as well.

I see their prices have been creeping up. $7.50 for a pint is getting to the ridiculous stage.

Last time MagoTago was on it was $7... not $7.50. I know they've charged $7.50+ for stuff that is over 8%, but come on.

$8 a pint and I'm done with them. Maybe a growler here and there, but no way a normal place to go to.

Anyone know what growler prices are? Before it was $10.50 and $20 for MagoTago, but wouldn't be shocked if those went up as well.

90% sure I paid $20 for Mago 64oz fill at the 3rd Anniversary party. There is definitely a 10% uncertainty considering I was there for a few hours...

    I'm 100% positive I paid $10.50 (each) for two 32oz MT's back in December.

Are we thinking this will at least last until opening on Saturday? I hope so considering how big of a batch this is at the Fermentaria, but who knows. People go absolutely bonkers when this beer is released.

I haven't had MagoTago, but I can't imagine an IPA tasting more like mangoes than Pathway of Beauty does.

Bought a 64oz growler of mago tago today and a 4oz pour while I waited because there were about 7 or 8 growlers getting filled before mine. Total came out to 24.50, so 3.50 for the small glass and if my math is correct, 21 for mt. They were filling growlers of it from multiple taps for those concerned how long it's going to last.

Yes thats correct, it was $11 for 32oz, $21 for 64oz. Got one of each (sending the 32er to a friend in NYC).
