Really, I thought it would be a dinner, this could be a problem.

I was thinking they want it out in time for people to still go to GABF. Would have rather had it at night also.

Just estimates of what customers are paying, not what it costs the brewers or event organizers. Kind of a justification to see what comes out of our pockets. You can probably bump down the cost for beerfest and rare beers and give more to charity in your own calc.

Don't ask me to calc out what the costs are to the brewer. After talking to several brewers (not on the lists for past brewers above), some were talking about starting to charge for getting there beers to show up at charity events.
Not full price of course, but enough to recoup certain cost levels and donate a portion to charitable activities. These brewers get many, many requests.

"The IRS spends God knows how much of your tax money on these toll-free information hot lines staffed by IRS employees, whose idea of a dynamite tax tip is that you should print neatly. If you ask them a real tax question, such as how you can cheat, they're useless." - Dave Barry

Aaron...seriously... Tax advice on BA? .....Ok - you can almost alway deduct the amount of the ticket that goes to the PfP as a 501(c)3 charity, but not the entire cost - as you have to deduct out the fair market value of the "gifts" (glasses, t-shirt) and the food & beer provided at the event (what you would be expected to pay for the same food and beer at Wynkoop if you were stopping in there on any typical Friday). I know they almost always have crazy rare BA brews for $2.00 a taster at happy hour (they do - don't they?) So assuming you only have 30 tasters and assuming no repeats (good tickers never do) - plus you skip the food and then drunkenly give your t-shirt and glass to a homeless guy outside, I could see you fudging this up to a $40 tax deduction.

Personally I am going again for the beer and the good cause...and will overstate my highly valuable collection of used beer shirts - previously worn by large breasted women - that I donate to Goodwill instead....

Cheers! (and sir A - I will be mailing you my bill, for which you can take a deduction on your 2012 Schedule A) See you there!

From the press release issued this week:

Denver Rare Beer Tasting IV Tickets Go On Sale June 17
Pints for Prostates Awareness Event Set for Oct. 12

DENVER, CO -- The Denver Rare Beer Tasting IV, an awareness event and fundraiser for the Pints for Prostates campaign, will be held on Oct. 12 from 1-4 p.m. at the Wynkoop Brewery in Denver.

Tickets for the event go on sale on Father’s Day, June 17, at Noon (ET) and are $100 each. They include the chance to sample rare, exotic and vintage beers from 32 of America’s top craft breweries and meet the men and women who made them. Each attendee receives a commemorative tasting glass, t-shirt, program and pen. Guests also receive a three issue trial subscription to the award-winning All About Beer Magazine. A buffet lunch is included in the ticket price and guests will have the chance to bid in an exciting silent auction that includes a variety of unique beer experiences and collectibles.

Presented by All About Beer Magazine, tickets for the event are among the most sought after of any beer tasting. The event is held while the Great American Beer Festival is taking place in Denver. The first three Denver Rare Beer Tastings each sold out several weeks in advance.
“The Denver Rare Beer Tasting brings together America’s best craft breweries in a relaxed format where brewers and beer lovers get the chance to talk and taste a unique collection of beers,” said Daniel Bradford, publisher of All About Beer Magazine. “This is the quintessential rare beer tasting and gives people in Denver for the GABF the chance to experience a true boutique-style tasting.”

Pints for Prostates is a 501(c)3 non-profit charity founded by beer writer and prostate cancer survivor Rick Lyke. All net proceeds from Denver Rare Beer Tasting go towards the awareness mission of Pints for Prostates and help to fund the education and support programs of the Us TOO International Prostate Cancer Education and Support Network and free prostates cancer screening programs provided by the Prostate Conditions Education Council.

“The Denver Rare Beer Tasting is an annual celebration that offers beer lovers a truly special experience. They get to taste a collection of beers that most people never get the chance to enjoy while rubbing elbows with brewers,” said Lyke. “It is a fun afternoon and a great atmosphere, with a serious mission: raising awareness about prostate cancer.”

The link to purchase tickets will be posted at www.allaboutbeer.com and www.pintsforprostates.org prior to the start of sales.

Lyle, is there a direct way to sign up as a volunteer? Might be too late, but it's probably the only way I'm going this year, and I still want to support the event.
