As far as the collaboration talk goes, have y'all had Boulevard's Collaboration series? Remarkable beers, each.

I don't live in TX, but I go there as much as I do PDX, which is about 2x a year. I live in San Diego. There are a few new specality breweries that rely completely on ticker fodder: Bruery, Cigar City etc... But too many will exhaust their base with expensive 1-offs. Highly hopped beers are standard at breweries in SD. It's just a trend, apparently PDX/OR is starting to catch up, this is nothing new.

One of the reason SD breweries are so good is they have to make multiple good beers, not just 1 here or there and the rest average. The bar has been set high, survive or die. One of my main gripes about visitng PDX breweries over the last decade is a brewpub may have 1 or 2 good beers, and the rest meh. That is changing. I really had a good time at Boneyard. By far the best brewery in OR I've been to.

One of the oddities between SD/PDX is SD has more production breweries/beer bars vs. the brewpubs of Portland. They keep expanding and pushing product further away from the state lines.

As far as BA/RB influence, psssh...production breweries have their money makers that keep them in business and allow the brewers (obviously beer geeks) the opprotunity to play and create new and interesting beers. With Ballast Point their main cash bitch was their Pale Ale, as they've grown the pale is now being outsold by Sculpin, which was a specality beer for awhile. Breweries do not stay in business making ticker fodder. Small production specality beers are more of a pain in the ass than anything else.

Didn't sierranevadabill mention something about the flat thing with their canned beers being due to the pour from a can? Anyone remember that?

I'm really burned on breweries buying into their own hype, and increasing their price because of it.

A local brewery that consistently produces quality product at a stable(ill use hangar 24 as an example) and reasonable price will retain more of my business than a brewery that escalates their price based on how popular some of their beers are (I'll use Epic as an example). One of these breweries was upgraded to regional craft brewer after only four years of operation. The other seems to have raised the prices on the bombers of their more popular beers by 2-4 dollars.

Also burned on breweries opening for business that only offer kegs/growlers with no intention or plan to bottle/can in the foreseeable future. While I'm sure the market will sort (sink) these breweries out, it's rage inducing to find someone that puts out an excellent brew only to realize you have to travel a long distance for a growler of something that should easily be a local shelf staple, and realistically without adding much to the startup cost.

Collabs still intrigue me. I cannot understand how you can be fed up with barrel aged beers though. Thats like loving the shit out of toast, but being fed up with french toast. Get outta here!

If you ask someone their favorite sports team I bet they give you a local answers or at least a team in the US. Favorite restaurant? Bet that is local too. People tend to talk about and support what is local, available and what they are exposed too. I am sorry that this is a US based forum but we are far more exposed to US based beer and that is what is going to be discussed. This is not an indictment on foreign breweries, it is a case of lack of exposure. I think you are expecting too much.

Well you were almost right with the favorite sports team: Italian national squad is my favorite! eheh Other then that I support a REALLY awesome restaurant only a block and a half away in town.

As much as I am also an Italian beer lover and advocate, not every can or will enjoy this. The same goes with other international brews, too. As much as I savor Italian beer, I regularly drink Dogfish Head,Troegs, or Victory.

A agree about the DIPA's. With the exception of a few that are particularly well done brews, I really prefer a crisp biting IPA over an overly hot sweet mess of a Double. Most are decidedly mediocre and they are more expensive.

Just like Herrburgess' like of German beers? How's my poking fun at the hype and rare train here any different than your poking fun of his love of German beer?

Collaborations and Barrel-aged beers, and brett might get over-hyped on the net, but they are such a small portion of craft beer sales that it's tough for me to get worked up over. As per "Craft Breweries bought out by BMC", that's a pretty small group, too.

I wasn't naming breweries but Oskar Blues is one of the ones that I have had "flat" canned beer from.

I'm fed up with what beer trading has become and the negative impact its having on the overall beer scene.
