Had 4 beans yesterday at a Beerfest. Sadly disappointed. Too much vanilla and very sweet imo. Loved 3 beans much better. Won't be buying this one.

Funny, I had my first can last night and was hoping for more vanilla. I did think it was super balanced and dangerously smooth for 10%. Awesome stuff.

Just had 4BEAN and was blown away, my favorite from Sixpoint, no doubt. No such thing as too much vanilla - is there even alcohol in there? haha loved it!

An old brewer/veteran of the industry/friend once told me "when you try to please everyone, you please no one."

We already had several people tell us "there's no vanilla in here. I can't taste anything." Then in the same day, someone will say "wooooooooooah.....vanilla overload!"

The same thing happened with the Jammer. Lots of people said, "this is waaaaaay to salty" and then someone would say "not salty enough."

A lot of times when you're dealing with exotic flavors (such as vanilla, salt, or even something like bitterness) there is no happy medium. You just have to take a stand and put the level where you think is appropriate. Not everyone is going to like it - you might even offend some people. But at least you'll have a formulation that has character, instead of a compromised mess that attempted to appease everyone.

I thought it was a decent beer, but at $14.99 I'll pay an extra buck to get a six pack of BP Victory at Sea. I still think Gorilla Warfare is the best thing from Sixpoint I've had thus far. PLEASE PUT THAT IN CANS, KTHX.

14.99 on Long Island... made me sad but I still bought it

And it's so good. If the Jersey price is knocked down 2 or 3 bucks a 4 pack I could see myself getting a case, I would pay 11 bucks for this in a heartbeat

But I also agree with @rojapa , At just a buck more than the 14.99, that 6 pack of BP V@S looks fantastic (both phenomenal coffee vanilla beers, but gotta go with the value).

I picked some of this up for $14 yesterday. Haven't cracked it yet, but am very excited to. Quick question, and I know this has probably been asked not only on this website before but likely in this very thread, so my apologies: What is the impact of the caffeine in a beer such as this? I am fairly sensitive to caffeine and usually limit coffee to strictly the morning as a result. Is there enough caffeine in something like this to actually give you a bit a of jolt?

I'd be interested to hear the answer to this since I'm fairly sensitive to caffeine as well. I've heard some claim it's negligible, but I've seen no real evidence that points to a legitimate answer. I know I've definitely had coffee beers that kept me up half the night (Speedway, Prairie Bomb and Avery Tweak to name a couple).

FYI, I drank a 4 Beans Saturday night and slept just fine.

Looked for 4Beans all over my usual NE Ohio spots this weekend....none of my beer stores had even heard anything about it....

Cavalier Dist. needs to stop sitting on beers and get them out to market!!

Thanks for the info. My initial reaction when I hear people say that coffee beers kept them up was that it was their anxiety about the coffee making an impact that kept them up, not the coffee itlself. However, I've since backed off that seeing just how sensitive some folks can be too caffeine. I tend to think I'm more of the "it's all in my head" type person. I make sure I don't drink coffee after noon, but in reality, I'd probably be just fine (unless I was drinking it at like 9 PM).

The other thing is that 10% ABV will lay you down eventually anyways, ha.

there is a massive discrepancy between NJ & NYC prices, and that is why you'll never find V@S on the shelf at 14.99 in NYC unless its a fluke. But you will see 4Beans in NJ at less than 14.99 for sure.

Glad you asked, I have a caffeine sensitivity myself in the evening hours. As a result, we don't like to brew beers that are saturated with caffeine, as most beer drinkers have their beers in the evening, so it does not make sense to inconvenience them with that. There are some commercial examples that I could not drink more than a few ounces of without being up all night!

This beer is on the lower spectrum for caffeine, and a single 12oz can should not keep you up all night.

J - they will be going out this week. Look for it!

    cheers

Thanks! How/when do you guys add the coffee? I home brewed a coffee beer once and remember there being a variety of options (add brewed coffee to the primary, to the secondary, to each bottle; add coffee grinds to the secondary -which is what I did; etc.). What's Sixpoint's approach?

@Sixpoint sorry if this was covered already, but will 4Beans be a beer that is continually made and shipped throughout the colder months or has everything that got produced been shipped

I am sure Shane @ Sixpoint will confirm, but most likely this was a "one and done" beer, like many of their seasonals....when it is gone, most likely that will be it!

North East PA? Shangys? This sounds right up my ally but Sixpoint distro in my area is very sporadic. Have only tried a few offerings due to this but all were tasty, at least I can find Resin fairly easily!

This is a "Cycliquid" beer, meaning its not continual production. Cycliquids come around every once in a while, but you never know when it will return!

Shangy's and all other wholesalers had the option of bringing product in. If they passed on it....their mistake!
