I wouldn't be surprised if most of those sellers continue to buy beer and hoard it while waiting around for some other avenue to sell it. Reading some of the posts in these oft-deleted threads, it sounds like some BAs think that half the people at releases were just there for resale. Newsflash: many more were traders or just people who wanted the beer for themselves or their friends. The amount of beer that ended up on eBay is/was just a teeny tiny amount of beer sold, so it's not like all the "true beer" fans are going to get their beer at releases and no one will be shut out even if the sellers were to stop.

The actual trade itself isn't illegal, it's a simple barter. The shipping is illegal. In-person trades, FTW.

This is a good point. Although I wonder if there might be some legal issue in regards to checking ID, verifying age, etc.

Well yeah, I didn't mean the trade itself, the shipping of the beer into your state is where the problem lies.

You're a smart guy and I don't need to try and prove why my opinion is "better than yours," because, well frankly it isn't. I just believe the bottle count adds a bit of value to a beer.

There's one release coming up that I will have several mules tag along with. And I'm not ashamed of it.
Why? Because, unlike 70% of those attending the release, I completely intend on sharing it with others in the community that it was created in. What isn't spread locally with be shared with trading partners at precisely what it's worth. Which coincidentally happens to be what I pay for it.
There will be assholes from many hours away stocking up with far more than their quota for trading purposes, and I guarentee it will be at outrageously over "priced" in the FT threads. The more I get for genuine sharing, the less the yahoos get to **** people in exchange for them.

    Several? Really?

Hope you're planning on sharing with the people that are going solo.

HA, I didn't even think of that, imagine them sitting on their "inventory" of maybe thousands of dollars and realizing their main way of selling is gone

So what? Why does that make you Beer Jesus? Who says the "community that it was created in" is in any more deserving the someone from a community 2,000 miles away? If the beer was only intended for the local community, then the brewer could just say that he's only selling the beer to people with local IDs.

Sounds like you've created some ridiculous imaginary criteria about who deserves the beer most. Oh, and what about the other "locals" that showed up in line, but got screwed out of beer because some douche bag brought "several mules" with him and hogged it all?

The self-righteousness of beer geeks is nauseating.

If you want to be a douche and hoard all the beer, whatever - that's your perogative. But don't pass your greediness off as some sort of bullshit nobility and charity.

I intend on sharing (read: giving to) with people that are unable to attend.
