    OH, snap!

I'm reminded of what on fella told me about my neighborhood when I told him I lived in Camden/Victory. :sunglasses:

O.P., Minneapolis Town Hall and its offspring are solid, and worth a try if you haven't yet been.

The Blue and Green Line light rails are a much less expensive option to visit a bunch of breweries/bars. Fulton, Town Hall, Republic, Day Block, Harriet, and Northbound are all within a few blocks of the Blue Line. Surly, Tin Whiskers, Urban Growler, Bang, and Great Waters are within walking distance of the Green Line.

I'm just trying to be helpful to a visitor, and I chose my words carefully when I wrote "rather" (certainly there are far "rougher" sections of the Twin Cities). As a former frequent light rail rider, I know that Lake Street (the stop that's just a few blocks from Harriet) is by far the most problematic stop on the Blue Line in terms of theft, fights on the platform, etc. East Lake Street is well known for having problems with late-night violence, resulting in a large police presence in the area, although most of those issues are concentrated a little further west than Harriet.

It's nice to wake up on a Saturday to a casual, baseless, implied accusation of racism. Internets these days. To be clear, the answer is "No." I lived in Longfellow for several years in the late '00s and early '10s. I'm glad you've never had an issue. I wish I could say the same (burglary of neighbors; car broken into and/or vandalized multiple times; visible drug-dealing and presence of obviously drug-addled individuals; male friend punched and mugged on the way to visit; female friend catcalled multiple times -- not a crime, but not a pleasant experience). The frequency of that kind of stuff can vary quite a bit among blocks within a neighborhood. If I'm wrong about the area, it's because I'm too familiar with it and jaded about it, not because I'm unfamiliar with it and stereotyping.

Been to Harriet numerous time over the past few years and never had a problem. It probably doesn't hurt that the Third Precinct Police Station is on the end of the block that Harriet is on.

Yeah, my take, too. I'll grant you that I've heard of crime at the Lake St. light rail stop, and non-violent crime (burglaries, car breakins) is more common than in, say, Kenwood, but I've never had an issue in 14 years of living in Longfellow, and never felt unsafe either. I would feel comfortable directing just about anyone to Harriet. Also Islay is right the tap room is kind of dingy, which is part of its charm. It feels like a garage or basement party. The beers range from solid to excellent (their hefe is fantastic, as is their pils). I'd recommend it without reservation.

Is Pseudo Sue going to make it up there to Minneapolis anytime soon? I thought they were done making that for the rest of the year because of hop allotments and such.

Bumping this thread instead of starting a new one. I'm in town for work next week M-F and probably sometime later in the month too. I get breakfast at the hotel and go under $10 for lunch, leaving me ~$50 to spend on dinner. What's the best places to hit up that have food (so I can keep my expense reports kosher and all that).

My last couple trips I've hit the obvious ones and some not as obvious: Surly, Stub & Herbs, Town Hall, Urban Growler, Tamarack Taproom, The Happy Gnome, Crooked Pint, Republic and probably a couple I'm forgetting.

I'm staying in New Brighton so not too far from there is preferable since I have limited hours in the day and I'm expected to get some work done (geez). Preferable, not mandatory if there's a place worth the drive.

Double Day Tripper is out and pretty tasty. And I agree with Todd the Axeman as well!

You're close to Barley Johns for food and beer. I would make the trip up to Hammerheart too.

2nd for Barley Johns. Village Pub in St. Anthony isn't bad either.

Republic Seven Corners is across the street from Town Hall, and has both great food and an outstanding beer selection. Day Block Brewing is a couple blocks west of Town Hall, and makes really good artisanal pizza and beer that pairs well with it. Both are within 10-15 minutes of New Brighton.
