I realize this isn't possible for everyone, but I've found just driving to Athens is sometimes easier than chasing it down in Columbus. By the time I stop at all the stores, I've taken the amount of time it would take just to drive to the taproom and get 6 bottles instead of the 1 I'd get here.

^ Agree. I just want to try one bottle before driving down to the taproom. Gotta make sure it's worth it first

I love summer drives down to Athens on 33 (especially with all the bypasses now). Always worth the trip.

The draft/ tap room is always worth the drive. Even if you don't get bottles.

I do wish I could get over there more often. It's been too long.

On another subject, it looks like Wolf's Ridge has some special things planned for IPA Day on Thursday:

Wolf’s Ridge Brewing will have their Driftwood session IPA, Earthrise IPA, Howling Moon Imperial IPA and New Moon Black IPA on draft as well as the Driftwood Citrus Surf, Basil & Thai Chili Earthrise, Peach Earthrise and a cask of Habanero Howling Moon.

With all the JAFB talk, I made a pit stop there last week. In all sincerity, tell me which beers I should have had because I didn't see, sorry, taste it. Opinions below:

Wooster Pale - good, nothing special
Rain Delay IPA - pretty gross
JAF IPA - average (in the Beer Advocate sense, so 3.6)
    New Stunt IPA - excellent

Really cool place though. Obviously a lot more beers to try.

I checked out JAFB this past weekend as well as Phoenix out in Mansfield. As far as JAFB goes I liked the JAFB IPA, I didn't have any of the others you had as I went more for the darker brews I thought the Colombian Coffee Porter and their stout were fantastic, I recall doing the stout on nitro.

Rain Delay was gross? Not sure what to say; it is a phucking phenomenal IPA. Maybe you don't like Mosaic.
JAF IPA is an IPA on par w Mystic Mama
    Yes, New Stunt is excellent.

Their Wooster New Stout is world class and the Columbian Coffee Porter is great, as noted above. Not sure what else they have on now, but I haven't had a bad beer from them.

Top three brewery in Ohio, Imo.

I completely disagree. The Wooster Pale is the only one in that bunch I can agree isn't that great. The other 3 are 4.0+. All fantastic. Their coffee porter is one of the best I've ever had. I just don't agree with you at all.

They had the stout and a barrel aged beer on tap, but I had baked in the 92 defree sun all day, so I wasnt feeling them. Will make sure to at some point.

The rain delay tasted like a pizza somehow. I dont think the mosaic hops were the problem, off the top of my head the Mosaic beer that Terrapin makes was one of my favorites. I figured that the hoppy beers were probably the better ones since fellow Ohio Bas like yourself thought so much of them, but I just didn't think they were in the same conversation as Fat Head's. Thanks for the input

Sounds like I need to try the coffee porter. For what it's worth, I could barely finish the flight sized pour of the Rain Delay. Different strokes for different folks.

It is what it tis, bro, no worries. But Rain Delay is seriously one of my favorite beers on the planet.

Probably could've done this, but ended up with 6 bottles of Oro between my roommate and I, so I'm happy :sunglasses:

Cracked my Oro tonight, (don't hate) but I wasn't overly impressed. I can appreciate it's complexity and the balance of it all but it seemed too thin and the peppers really throw me off. FWIW I really didn't care for Prairie Bomb or Xocoveza at all either for the same reason which to me have similar flavor profiles. I think the whole spicy stout combo just doesn't do it for me. I wish it did, but not my cup of tea.

I went for the first time a few weeks ago and I really enjoyed all the beer. However I must admit, none of the IPA's (some five available that day) were extraordinary, ranging from good to very good. I far preferred the rest of the selection they had, outside of the IPA's... And there was something like 10 of those. It was those other 10 or so that sold me on the place.

Do you know if they have any of the Dire Wolf versions on tap?

When I was there Saturday only the standard edition Dire Wolf was on tap.
