Looking to make a day trip out of New Glarus Brewery and the town, then head over to Madison for dinner/drinks etc. where we'll be spending the night.

Does anyone have any suggestions for restaurants to check out in New Glarus for lunch, and perhaps a couple bars/breweries and/or excellent food joints to not miss in Madison?

Any help or suggestions is much appreciated - cheers

Glarner has awesome cheese curds among the rest of their traditional Swiss menu.
Also, Sugar River Pizza is really really good. They typically have an exceptional beer selection as well.

If you want some super squeeky cheese curds, the BP gas station has some that are packaged in zip lock bags. If your teeth are brushed, those babies will make some noise! Or if you're adventurous, you can find Limberger around town. Don't buy it unless you know what you're in for though.

I'm not a pro about Madison, but all I can say is stop at Karben4. One of the best breweries in the state. Good food too.

I know a lot of people like Glarner Stube, but we've been consistently very underwhelmed by their food. I think a lot depends on what kind of food you like, what you're used to eating, and how much you value the "alpine bar" theme.

The best option for lunch is probably the La Fortuna Wood-Fired Pizza cart right at the New Glarus brewery, if it happens to be there that day. I've also heard good things about the Cow & Quince and it's getting good reviews, but haven't tried it personally.

Madison has a lot of excellent restaurants. I can wholeheartedly recommend Graze, The Old Fashioned, Forequarter, Alchemy, and Brickhouse BBQ, all of which good-to-excellent beer lists (The Old Fashioned offers 50+ Wisconsin brews on tap!) as well as very good food.

In New Glarus Tofflers is a great stop for lunch as well as Puemple's Olde Tavern.

And, if you're in that area mentioned by Yohann, there's HopCat. Food is fine, nothing to write home about, but if you're loking for beers, 130 taps + 20-30 bottles is worth at least looking at.

If you have the time stop in at Karben4 in Madison; one of my favorite Madison area breweries!

Salvatore's makes a fine pizza, either in Sun Prairie or Johnson St. in Madison. Also, Sujeo on E. Washington is a must stop for great food.
