I agree with this. I just don't shop at a place that charges too much.

Depends on what beer it is. 4 pack of BCBS for $40? F right off. $50 for a bottle of Fou and ill clear your shelf.

Yup, I will happily support a well run shop, even pay a small premium, but if the prices are outrageous I'm happy to take my business elsewhere.

Connecticut package stores for the most part have fairly reasonable price. Especially compared to our neighbors in NY. (Although NY has better distribution) The only place I find that has higher than average prices is Whole Foods. However, they have things package stores don't carry so I don't mind paying a couple extra dollars for things I can't find elsewhere.

it's all about HOW MUCH they overprice and when it's 20% cheaper across the street then yes I dislike them

edit: after reading the post below this... the one in our city doesn't have a great selection either

If you are gonna overcharge you damn well better make up for it in service and selection - really with both. Then I forget about being overcharged.

There's one in Pa that's very good, but high. But not everything is all that high, he usually is current and he has fresh. So do you pay? A Buck more for better or shuffle off to save it? All depends on what, but there's enough competition to keep the real BS away. Yea, I've seen $15 cans of HT, but that kinda shit you have to walk away from.

I dont pay the extreme mark-up even when I want it. I cant think of anything sold in stores that I absolutely have to have anyways. $40 Fou Foune seems really dumb.

I am not a fan of a mark up compared to other local stores, but its also possible for me to walk away from a lot of things that I just see while browsing when I see an inflated price. Therefore, I cannot hate on them for charging what they want if people are willing to pay it.

    No.

They tend to have better availability of some of the products.

Paying more but actually getting the product is clearly better than driving to 3 separate stores, all with "fair" prices on the BA-fairness meter, and all 3 of those places being sold out.

Hate is a really strong word, but if it makes you feel beeter, I do feel sheepish and dirty whilst buying the rare from them...but they do not get my regular purchases all year long. We both , however, seem to be okay with the arrangement.

Add in freshness - and I'm totally with you.

Smaller shops that care for their product offerings in all respects will get my extra $.

I don't mind it as long as I know where the cheaper places are. I find I can still get some harder to come by beers at places that charge $1-2 more and that doesn't bother me. I would be upset if that was my only option.

I feel pretty spoiled.. the bottle shops in Charlotte, NC are all quite fair. If is overpriced I'll just try another.

Not a big fan of gougers or hoarders. The bottle shop I go to knows this very well. They decently price bottles and if its a rarer beer are usually kind enough to sit one aside for me as my work schedule precludes me beating all the whale hunters in the door. There is one particular shop I will not go to even though their selection is amazing. I refuse to pay overpriced markup just to drink a whale. Too many great beers out there to be had at equally great prices.

well said, the shops that have a better selection tend to be higher priced, which is normal because the bottom line is the more mainstream beers sell more then the more obscure, small batch brews. So naturally the store will need to charge more to make up for the fact that there's less volume being sold.

To me it's in the same category as buying a $3 2 liter at a pizza place. Its all about convenience. If i can afford it and don't want to go anywhere else and know it's hard to get and don't want to wait in line, better believe i'll pay a couple extra bucks.

If something is legitimately overprice , I will just move along. There are plenty of shops that don't take advantage of people

I wouldn't say I hate them, especially if they carry beers not sold elsewhere in the area. That being said, 99% of the time, I will drive past them and shop someplace more affordable.
