Wish they always had this on tap/rotating. Probably my favorite so far from them.

Savor Growl just tweeted that they got CV Axis Mundi so....yeah, it's in Columbus.

Though with Savor, I wouldn't entirely doubt that they drove down there, bought some, and are now selling it.

Yeah Weiland's apparently gave me bad info yesterday. Gentile's received it today too.

Got to try a bottle over the weekend and it was pretty fantastic, so I definitely recommend it.

Any Oracle sightings in Ohio yet? Can't wait to get my hands on some - a month after it was bottled. I don't fully understand distribution. My local Giant Eagle just received a big batch of Sucks - bottled in early May. I guess I get a bit spoiled when I can get Fatheads stuff within a few days of packaging.

Neither do the rest of us (understand dist that is). In eastern MI, we don't get Bell's seasonals until 3-4 weeks after bottling either. My Hopslam is always 3 weeks old....GRRRRRRRRR

Oro was 1 bottle limit in Toledo, are people able to but multiples in other areas?

I have an honest question for you fine gentlemen.

I'm noticing the trade value for Oro Negro is all over the place. Some.are offering it for Julius and Pliny and others are asking for VR and OR. Now those hoppy brews are very good but in terms of trading value I don't see a lot of huna or Mexican cake going for ipa/iipa swaps. Not sure if any of the VR or OR trades are getting any attention to gauge the value either. Here is my question.

How do places like Toppling Goliath and Side Project have the beers they put out so hyped up in trade value but a bottle released at Jackie O's quarterly release with maybe 300-400 bottles gets little attention on the forums? Are the people in the beer scene in Missouri and Iowa more responsible for this? I feel Jackie O's puts out just as good stuff as these places but then we trade it for local IPA ' S while an assassin goes on the whale list right away.

Don't take this the wrong way. I'm not into "winning" trades or ripping people off. Read my trade reviews and you will see that isn't the case. However I do like trying hard to get beers and the only way to do that is to obtain beers locally (or travel to releases) and be able to trade with other people. Curious of thoughts why Jackie O's isn't on the level trade wise as they are when I rank them against some of these other breweries. I'd put them toe to toe with side project and TG anyday. Sans a few outliers like kbbs and anabis I'd say they match up nicely!

To start I don't disagree with much you say except I think that the bottle count for Oro Negro is much higher than 300-400 bottles. Brad mentioned he brewed a 1200 gallon batch (in the Jackie O's thread) which would equate to 12,000 375 ml servings. Assuming a good amount is kegged lets figure 25-50% bottled that's still 3,000-6,000 bottles. The TG releases and Side Project releases draw people from many places to camp out stand in line and etc. What I love about Jackie O's is that their releases will still be available week or weeks after they release. I do think is availability hurts trade value but certainly does not hurt the quality of the product.

I think with the 300-400 bottles reference (and Ray, you can correct me if I am wrong), he's referring to the bottle releases.

I don't trade much any more, I don't even know what VR or OR is, but I used to dabble as some can attest. Here are a few thoughts:

    - Jackie O's had a few issues back in the day, and some still hold that against them.

    - If I was trading Oro, or anything else, it would probably be for a highly rated IPA. That's what I drink 9 out of 10 times.

    - There is some magical ratio for breweries that include things like initial hype, marketing, location, fan boy population, and a few other things that generate trade interest. As a guy that has been around the block, these breweries rarely live up to their billing if you are being honest.

So in short, i'm happy with Fat Head's, JO's, JAFB, Brew Kettle, Columbus, etc. and have virtually zero interest in trading. I have had a lot from Toppling Goliath, Hill Farmstead and Trillium(through a few trades and just former trading partners sending me stuff) and I wouldn't go out of my way for any of it, although some of it is very good.

Yes as Ryan mentioned I'm talking about the bottle releases with the calender pages. I see very little interest in those beers outside of Ohio yet these other breweries release something like that and before anyone tastes it it takes on whale status.

You are very wise. I enjoy trading because it's like a hobby to me and with a young family I don't have much time for real hobbies ha. I look forward to the day when I can just appreciate the local offerings and stop the madness that is chasing other beers. It's all good fun in the end.

Regarding the bottle release beers, I think the scarcity works against them in terms of trade value. With so few bottles out there, it's hard for people to try them and get excited. There have been some exceptions (Token comes to mind), but in general I think this is the case.

As for Oro and the other 375s, I think larger bottle counts and fairly easy availability work against them. If you scroll through the trade forums, there are a lot more people offering Oro Negro than asking for it, so anyone who's interested in trying to get it can afford to be picky. It's the same every time a new BA 375 comes out. A bunch of people flood the trade forums with FT offers as soon as they have the bottles in hand (frequently asking way too much for it, BTW), and it causes the trade value to plummet.

Sorry for sounding like a stock broker, BTW. I wouldn't mind being able to trade JOs beers for stuff on my wishlist, but at the end of the day I don't really care about "value." I'd honestly rather drink it.

Trading for me is about sharing the great local beers that I am proud of and trying other local beers that my trading partners feel the same way about. Don't get me wrong there are some beers I try to track down every year that are out of my distro mainly BA stouts/Wilds but I do agree if you are strictly a hop head (which it seems you are), there are plenty of Ohio brews that can keep you pretty satisfied year round.
