CW has nothing to apologize for. And we tipped our waitress well, because while she disappeared for 25+ minutes at times, she was earnest and trying. The problem was she had to be bartender, waitress, hostess, and busboy throughout the evening. Main problems: understaffed (or at least most staff were slated to begin way too late), and staff seemed generally unaware how things were running.

    On to the fest.

They said they mixed it up but they actually didn't. The maple stout was tapped first, then rye black gold. When I got my pour of the black gold at 7:15, they poured it from the maple handle with a bottle of maple syrup sitting in front. It was definitely rye black gold though.

It seems like this confused a lot of people.

Also, I had a fine time at Bricks. Maduro was the place to be though.

Only way would be to pre-sell a certain number of tickets.

Amidst all the hubbub I forgot to mention, the beers were awesome. Cassia sunset stole the show for mrs bob cobb and myself. CW continues to outdo itself.

My .02. While there was a ton of people at Brick House it wasn't as bad as pitch fork nation is saying. I enjoyed myself. I missed out on a few pours, but who gives a fuck. We drank half the "rare" ticks and then gave the remainder of the glasses to those waiting in line. The event was fine. It was busy, so what. Great Taste Eve this year was far less crowded than last.

I had a blast! Yeah, it was busy. What exactly do you expect?

First pour of the timed releases was definitely the maple. Without question.

It's all about expectations. The crowd was much larger than previous years, but if you were relaxed and with friends, well, I had no complaints.

$5 pints of Todd the Axe Man and Cacao Bender at Brocach were the highlight of my GT Eve. The food pairings were pretty damn good too.

Anyone know if there is any Oskar Blues Death by Coconut left in town? I would love to go get another taste after the fest.

Great taste eve has most certainly jumped the shark. Used to be equal in greatness to the fest, but now mostly just a joke.

I asked both the people serving the beer and Paul and Anello and all 4 people stated that it WAS mixed up. Rye BG was tapped first and then Maple Barrel. I thought the Rye BG tasted more like maple than the Maple Barrel itself so I didn't believe it at first. I had Maple Barrel yesterday at GToMW and it was definitely the second special tapping at Brickhouse. How they messed that up is beyond me.

I still don't buy it. I also had the maple at great taste. The maple tastes like maple and the rye tastes like rye.

I don't think so either... There was so much confusion at that place between unpressurized tap lines, no staff, A LOT of people.... It's very odd if they did mess it up... IF they did mess it up then my tasting notes would be:

Rye Black Gold taste like a VERY sweet Maple BB Aged Stout (albeit subtle Maple)... and
Maple BB Stout tastes like a Rye aged Stout...

Also "Flat" Cassia Sunset is better than a majority of beers I've had... I can't wait to taste that thing the way it was meant to be...

Does anyone know when it will be bottled? Sounds delicious...

CW was talking about bottling it a couple months ago but they were trying to figure out a new piece of equipment that would introduce the vanilla and cinnamon. I'm hoping it hits the stores soon since I didn't get a chance to try it.

That's interesting because the only thing I know about both those ingredients is they can be expensive in quantity so maybe they are trying to get more-out-of-less?

I did feel bad for the bartenders. They worked their asses off, and couldn't properly pour a beer because the bar didn't have the lines tested and ready to go beforehand. I'm sure they got plenty of tips, but would imagine it would have been much better if they didn't have to spend half their time pouring out pitchers of foam.
