Couldn't agree more. Part of the reason I always looked forward to heading to New Glarus, whether for a release or just to take friends to the brewery, was because of New Glarus consistently releasing awesome beers at reasonable prices, including some truly great Thumbprints. What other brewery in the country ever put a beer like Wild Sour Ale into a 4 pack for under $10? This inspired a sense of loyalty that I do not have to any other brewery.

If they do away with the Thumbprint line, and require a trip to the brewery to get every special release, I'm going to eventually stop making the trip over there. I really looked forward to heading up to NG once or twice a year. Four or five times a year and the magic starts to wear a little thin. And if all I can get at the store is their standard lineup, now priced in line with a lot of other solid local beers, that loyalty I now hold will start to fade.

Only time will tell what happens, but I sincerely hope new and interesting Thumbprints aren't a thing of the past.

Great post. I hope the Careys know how strong many of us feel about this.

I think it's safe to say that there won't be an August Thumbprint (or any Thumbprint) outside the seemingly year-round Scream and Apple. Curious to see what happens with this series going forward.

The R&D thread has a post by @Yohann mentioning one more release this year. It is supposed to be a milk stout. I am hopeful and don't think they will do away with the Thumbprint line.

According to BA's that attended the R&D release, it sounds like there is only 1 thumbprint left for 2015. It is a Milk Stout.

If true, a milk stout (without any bells or whistles) seems rather ... ordinary for a thumbprint.

I couldn't agree more. Why would I pay for a 4pk of milk stout at $10+ when there many very good ones available in 6 packs for under that price? It just seems like it should be in 6pk format.

Maybe it will have have a twist that they are keeping secret.

I'm looking forward to the milk stout At least it is a change of pace from New Glarus. It kinda feels like thumbrints have been stuck in a rut lately. I feel with Dan's skill, and the near endless options of styles to brew, there has been an awful lot of similarity in the series as of late. Oud Bruin/Cranbic (both browns, and I yes I know one was a base for the other), 2 Berliners in relative succession, more Apple Ale than you can shake a stick at. Old Scream sitting on shelves. It's nice to see a change. I would like them to go back to smaller runs on a 2 or 3 month cycle, as opposed to the flood and subsequent glut of Apple Ale & Scream. But that is just opinion, after all it's not my brewery. While I'm wishing, I would also like Wild Sour Ale to come back, and would love to try their Saison/Imperial Saison. How were those? Nobody around here ever mentions them, but they seem like a style NG could excel at.

Did they sell out of their R&D release this past weekend?

I vote for the Imperial Saison every year. The regular was pretty good, but it was very new to me at the time.

I checked the date on some scream at discount in Milwaukee and it was a batch from late 2014...

That's because they used all their coffee in the milk Stout

More pumpkin? Since when did latte drinking Ugg wearing sorority girls become such big NG fans?

If you need s Coffee Stout Fix, I can probably hook you up with a 6er. It's not much, but is better than none.

There are some May bottles out there (1425). They are holding up incredibly well to the "age".

Discount orders so much NG that they probably have quite a back stock of Scream. Unfortunately that means that Milwaukee's biggest bottle shop is dishing out some of the oldest Scream on the market.

Check out smaller stores (local Sendik's/grocery stores) that move through the few cases they order more quickly.

My understanding is they're in the process of buying back what shares are out there in the hands of outside investors and transferring them to long-term employees, with I believe the goal of having New Glarus be 100% employee-owned.
