    hey Guys,

I have been trying to hunt down some good rum barrel aged beers with coconut. Also any that have the addition of vanilla or cocoa / chocolate.

Does anyone have any favorites that wouldn't require me selling my first born to acquire?

    Thanks,

    Andy

I can only think of a handful of coconut beers, so one with rum, let alone the other stuff, is beyond my knowledge. I know how well coconut and rum work together though, so I am intrigued.

I know that Lawson's did a rum barrel aged Maple stout last year I think but that's as close as I can remember I traded the last bottle of that I had a while ago.

Step 1: Get a rum barrel aged stout

Step 2: Toast up some coconut, put it in a french press, pour half the rum barrel stout in (leave the other half in the bottle, recap, and place back in fridge)

Step 3: Wait two hours, strain and pour the pressed beer, add the other half from the bottle.

    Voila.

Alternatively, just grab your favorite non-barrel aged stout and then add oak chips that have been sitting in rum for a couple of days to the french press step

Prairie Pirate BOMB would be perfect for this idea.

I appreciate the feedback so far. Seems this beer style is more rare than I thought. I guess I'll keep searching and hope someone has some other's.

Mainly just want rum barrel aged with coconut, but would settle for one with the addition of vanilla and/or cocoa/ chocolate.

I have only had Victory at Sea in Rum Barrel (vanilla, coffee, but no coconut). Good luck finding it. I had it a special event (SF Beer Week)...

Lickinghole Creek in VA released a coconut rum barrel quad Coconut Delight back in July. I think they only released 500 bottles of it though.

Yeah, I saw that one. Was hoping to find one or two that I could realistically trade for / buy somewhere. Seems the rum / coconut beers are trading for insane offers.

There are just significantly less Rum BA beers out there and also few coconut additions as well. Maybe it's a tough thing to nail or you need a ton of coconut, I honestly don't know...but I've absolutely loved the ones I've had!

Yeah, I've brewed a few. The coconut it flavor is hard to capture long term. I guess I'll keep searching.

I don't know if you can find it where you are, but I really enjoyed Santiam's Pirate Stout.

Fresh oak barrels can contribute a coconut character to whatever beer is aged in it but that leaves out the rum you're looking for.

Try this one if you can find it. It's in my cellar and I haven't had a chance to try it. I don't think it is rum barrel aged so much as it is aged on rum soaked oak spirals. Either way, the 750ml bottle was cheap in Rochester, NY: $5 or $8 if I'm remembering it right
