I go to DC every so often. When I do go down I always like to stop at breweries but have never actually noticed if they are Family Friendly. Im going down this weekend with the family and was wondering if anyone knew anything about this or could suggest a family friendly brewery. Thanks in advance.

I'd say Bluejacket would be fine, it's more of a 'restaurant' anyway. And a big plus for you, their beers are pretty damn good.

Completely agree. Very much a restaurant feel and the beers are great (highly creative and experimental). Also, it's right next to the stadium to catch a baseball game.

If you're going to do this, make a reservation or stay as far away from that place on gamedays. It's out of control crowded and not worth dealing with all the chads that are there just to get as drunk as possible. Going on a day without a game going on is much better IMO.

Most of the breweries in DC are kid friendly since most of them are restaurants as well. I would suggest Right Proper. If you are willing, I would also suggest taking a drive out to Dulles, VA and go to Ocelot. They are kid friendly, and make the best IPA's/DIPA's in the entire area. No one even comes close to what they are doing with IPA's/DIPA's in the MD/DC/VA area.

Ocelot is definitely the most kid-friendly brewery I have been to in the area, but its a good 45 minutes or more from DC. I would not want to bring a kid to Right Proper or Bluejacket when they are crowded.

I can't speak to what it's like during a game, but I agree that a non-game day, especially during the week, you can have the whole giant place to yourself.

As for Right Proper, I remember it being a tight space, but this is going on two years now and I also visited later in the evening.

Yea, you are right about Right Proper. During the evening it definitely gets crowded. I would go during the day time hours, which are only weekends. The surrounding area has gotten MUCH better since you have visited. You can actually walk around the Shaw area without getting mugged, so that is nice.

I looked up the game schedule. Doesnt look like there are any games this weekend so I may just check out blue jacket.

Go to Right Proper for their weekend brunch. If you get there around the time they open (11:30am), it should be reasonably empty. We've gone with our nine month old kid for brunch a couple of times, and we mostly just saw other families with little kids there.

Right Proper during the day or early evening isn't okay? I find that hard to believe.

So I took my 3yr old and the wife to blue jacket. Its been on my list but I just wasnt sure if they were family friendly. Man I enjoyed it so much. Good selection and tasty. I went on Saturday just in time for their bottle shop grand opening. It was great! Thanks again guys. Im going back down in Sept. so I'll make sure I hit up Right Proper next time.

IMO, they're ALL family friendly. It's not like we're in Seattle or Portland, where they put "No Minors" signs in front of their establishments in a desperate attempt to appear cool.

I've taken my family to RightProper for lunch on weekends and early dinner (5-6:30) on Fridays and it was family friendly.

We weren't the only family there any of those times. A 3 year old will fit in just fine at RP at the right hour of the day.

They will fit in about anywhere, you'll have more food options at Right Proper, Meridian Pint and Bluejacket, food trucks at DC Brau that's about it but I've seen kids there often.. but there will be less for them to be entertained by...

I'll second that Bluejacket during a game will be insanity.

Bluejacket is also very close to a waterfront park with a wading pool.

You are aware those signs are posted by the Oregon Liquor Control Commission, at least (obviously) in the case of Portland? In Oregon no kitchen unfortunately equals no kids. I'm headed to DC with the family for a September wedding. What time does Bluejacket start being a problem game days? And if I get to Right Proper at opening on a weekday how is it crowdwise?

I think weekday opening at RP is 5pm. You should be able to walk in and get a table without a problem.

Why is it that the Horse Brass allows minors only until 6, Belmont Station onlyuntil 7, HOTD only until 8, Cascade only until 9, Hawthorne Hophouse only until 10? Seems like the establishments make up the rules, not the OLCC.
