Was just thinking, I enjoy getting local and different beers, but if I need to I can grab something that generally fits the bill if I want something easier to find for most beer styles.

    HOWEVER

I cannot think of a single one in the "sours" category. Just curious if there is such a thing as an accessible/affordable sour "go-to" beer.

Tarte Nouveau from Weyerbacher is a session sour that comes in six-pack bottles. It isn't the most mind-blowing sour, but it fits your criteria. It's definitely an above average brew. Retails for around $12 a six.

Petrus Aged Pale is a "reasonably" priced sour ale, likely available by you. They also do Flanders Style sours that are good, but the Aged Pale is the best of them.

I hate them getting grouped in with sours because I find tart the more apropos term, but you need to embrace goses and berliner weisses if you're looking for a good deal.

    Try:

Anderson Valley The Kimmie, The Yip and the Holy Gose
    Anderson Valley Blood Orange Gose
    ^^^ --- $9.99 a sixer in my area

Westbrook Gose - around $11-12 a sixer, I believe (and this one IS sour)

Avery Raspberry Sour has to be included in this IMO

First one that came to mind for me too. Extremely good for the price (~$14/bomber near me).

If we're going that high as far as price then we have to talk about La Folie and Le Terroir.

Affordable and "sour" don't usually go together

I see! Thanks for the input!

I tried both Anderson Valley just for that reason (being easy to find) and hated them! I think that the sea salt and coriander signature for Gose style must not sit well with me, but maybe I'll try a different Gose and enjoy it, but am assuming I won't. Definitely am a fan of Berliner Weisses though!

Exactly! That's why I was curious if such a thing existed, and thought good ole community on BA would be the best way to find out!

One of my local shops just tweeted they had gotten in some New Holland Incorrigible Reserve. Last time that came around it was like $5-8 I believe? Making it a pretty accessible one, and quite good for the price.

Desthil has come out with some sours in the can as part of their Wild Sours Series. Unfortunately they haven't made it to Florida yet. Prairie Artisan has a lot, not necessarily cheap, but really good examples. Boulevard Hibiscus Gose is a great beer, not too heavy on the salt profile. Jolly Pumpkin is available in Florida and a majority of their beers, least those I have had are sours. They can be expensive, but if you find them at a growler shop it isn't that bad

The kettle sour styles, like Berliners and Goses are by design, cheaper options.

Victory Sour Monkey is cheap, and while I didn't enjoy it much, many do
Duchesse de Bourgogne is affordable, and for my tastes, pretty nice
Personally I think Lindeman's Cuvee Rene is SHIT, but many think otherwise

got a couple 4 packs of Snarling Badger for $8.99 each yesterday, not rated really high but I believe it's in part to being 'technically' (?) mislabeled as a Berliner weisser while being 7.5%, either way very puckery and affordable

This, kettle sours are in general an abomination, but they are(sometimes) cheap. Sometimes they don't even taste like one note shit. Caveat, Not all Berliners and Gose are kettle soured.

The de Garde foudre stuff(Bu Weiss, Petite Desay, ect) for 4-6 bucks for a bomber of delicious well made beer is pretty hard to argue with.

You can pretty much stop the thread and just find Rodenbach Grand Cru. World Class belgian sour (check). Find most anywhere in the US? (check) Reasonably priced? Seen them from $8.99 to $14.99 for a big bottle. Pretty much the cheapest available as well (check).

I'm glad someone else mentioned Westbrook Gose - it's phenomenal. I wish I had regular access to it. If you include Berliner Weisse and Gose in your search, you might find some good options, that are also readily available and affordable.
