Last week DuClaw Brewing released their new Foundation Series 6 packs. First one was a Kolsch....and it was damn great! Should be circulating now where you buy Duclaw beers.

The Kolsch from the Sierra Nevada Summer Pack is delicious.

I just can't believe a thread not devoted to an ipa, BA stout or sour made it to 6 pages. Really groundbreaking for this site!

I've been active in the recent Japanese beer thread - and found an article about a craft brewery near Tokyo (with a female head brewer) that kind of specializes in kolsch (style). Going there for a few weeks, I'll try and find some.

I picked up a Kolsch kit and brewed it. I dry hopped using Cascades that are growing in my yard during second fermentation. Tried it one week after bottling and its outstanding! My wife isn't much of a beer drinker but she kept taking it out of my hand. Can't wait to try it another batch. Extremely drinkable. BTW it's my first time home brewing and I am hooked!

If you're looking to mix up the classic Kolsch, Clown Shoes does a Mango Kolsch that's actually fantastic.

    Yes, best I have had.

I have been trying to like Pilsners, and really just don't. I find that I do like Kolsch much better, but 90% of the time there is not a single example to be found in my local shops.

32/50 is an incredible beer. So much better than any other kolsch I've tried while remaining true to style. One of the only ones in the style actually worth trading for if you're out of state.

I haven't had this beer but wondering why you would want to add mango to a kolsch? Just like I don't understand heavy hopped versions, like Other Half did.

I didn't understand it either, but does it really matter if you enjoy it? I think there has to come a point where tradition can be bypassed for taste and execution. The Other Half Hoppy Kolsch wasn't an exceptional beer, whether you care about traditional accuracy or not. Although I do like a classic kolsch, I'd sip a great reinterpretation just as soon as one that's traditionally accurate to the style.

I thought that OH boogie board stuntz was ridiculous - dry hopped with mosaic. at least don't call it a kolsch beer.
I definitely prefer less additives in my beers and more close to style in general.

Kolsch fans in the Great Lakes area may already know this but Founders is doing a Kolsch for their one-off Art Prize six-pack this year. It's due out in September.

I think the biggest thing here is that there is a category already for that type of beer - what's called on here the "fruit/vegetable beers". Part of the beauty of beer styles is that such a wide range of flavors can be expressed through the use of different variations of the 4 main ingredients, and by calling something by a label under which it doesn't really fit, you hurt other brewers' ability to accurately depict their product to customers.
