Sippin on Paulaner now. I also like Sam Adams, Dundee's, Point's, Leinenkugel's, and Yuengling's versions of the style.

My favorite would easily have to be Ayinger, I have enjoyed a couple today already. I haven't had any others yet this year but my usual favorites are Weihenstephaner, Paulaner, Schell's, Great Lakes, and Sierra Nevada.

Sam Adams for me is up there as it brings the most memories back.. takes me back to fall in college sitting on the porch with my buddies drinkin good some cold SA from the bottle. The new Sierra Nevada is probably closer to the true "Oktoberfest" style, and its darn tasty too. Lookin to try some Ayinger... have not partaken yet but I hear good things!

New Glarus Staghorn, Sam Adams, Sierra Nevada two different ones the last 2 years are great, Abita, and Summit are quality as well. I really want to start sinking my teeth into the German made ones.

    Highland Clawhammer is good.
Westbrook and COAST (both in Charleston area) make good ones. Märzen from Westbrook and Oktoberfest from COAST.

Yeah, my reply was somewhat facetious, but it is just about time for the annual version of this thread, and I didn't want tot be too obnoxious with an eye-roll.

Nonetheless, they're out -- and I'm snapping them up before it's too late.

Mecktoberfest from Olde Mecklenburg. My favorite brew from them, authentic and fresh. When it's available it will be a few days old at most. Fresh is best. I seriously don't have much interest in 3 month old German import efforts. There's just no way IMO that 3 month old beer is as good as fresh stuff, and it's kinda pricy too. No doubt it's still very good, but that's still a leap from what flows fresh there.

Were Spaten, Hacker-Pschorr or Paulaner Amber Märzens in your mix? They're not Wies'n Fest-Biers and are much darker and maltier. Maybe not as dark as Sam Adams or Staghorn, but those don't have the same good maltiness from German malts and brewing.

I had a very fresh Ayinger last night, also not of the lighter Wies'n variety and damn tasty.

This is actually the first year SN has paired with a German brewery for an Okto Märzen, but the plan is to make it a tradition.

@WestcoastMichigander not sure if you caught this thread, but great info and reviews.

So many on the market it's almost overwhelming but I have to say that Great Lakes kills it every year and I look forward to it as much as I do most of my favorite imperial stouts.
