Certain fanboys on here can be annoying, but if they make good beer then that is surely what matters and wouldn't make them overrated just because BA posters suck.

Strangely enough in the same exact situation. Ive tried a good number of their beers. And dont find anything terribly compelling about them. However just had a very fresh w. coast ipa and was mediocrely content. That being said however, I wholeheartedly refuse to spend $20+ on their special bombers. And still immediately think of them when i think about overrated breweries. I had it in my mind between seeing the thread and opening it to read the first post. Also, im sure im a minority, but Stone. They do an ok job at beer. But have some sub par stuff. People seem to esteem them as the pinnacle of the craft scene. I tend to disagree. Two cents for a ham to the dollar though, right?

edit: seeing a bunch of "stone"rs above me. Feeling not so alone.

Founders and hill farmstead are the most overrated breweries out there. Founders just makes overly bitter, dry, cough syrup, diabetes tasting beers. The regular RIS is their best beer and its average at best. HF is just bland, thin, and forgettable. No idea how there breweries got such a cult following.

DuClaw's misses don't make up for their hits. Spring House kinda wore me down on loving them after the somewhat disaster of the BRS, although I'd still praise many of their base beers. Flying Dog used to be my favorite and is getting back in there with making Bloodline year round and the six packs of brewhouse rarities, but there was a bit in there where everything felt like a cash grab on the legacy of Thompson.

As for non-locals, FFF doesn't sit well with their price points and lack of customer care. I know Rogue has largely been written off; the stories about employee treatment don't sit well at all regardless. I've enjoyed Toppling Goliath but not to the extent trading is worthwhile, particularly for Mornin' Delight, Assassin, and others of the waxed ilk.

+1. I have not had a Weyerbacher beer that I've liked in the least.

I think much of this issue has to do with better beers hitting the market all of the time and people's knowledge and palate constantly improving. I used to praise anything that Stone made, but now most of it is just ok to me. Many of these breweries used to be on the cutting edge of craft beer, but now have been edged out by the true elite brewers....thus they seem overrated. Also, people tend to hype the shit out of something they like or a brewery they support and that leads disappointment when you finally try those beers.

Three Floyds. They make 2 fantastic beers (ZD and RtheB) and then a whole bunch of decent beer that everone thinks is liquid gold because ... Three Floyds man. Plus they are pricks. Pipeworks, Revolution, & Half Acre all make better IPA's IMO.

Overrating is due to hype either from the brewery, the media or the brewery's fans. I make my own mind up about what I like or don't like.

I don't get the hate on Dfh. Some of their beers are misses sure but you can't tell me their ipas or palo santo arent great beers.

I think Founders and Stone both fall under the category of solid breweries that established a reputation and a following when there were less options in the craft beer world, but might not be as successful if they were to open today...

The real answer to this thread is Your Small, Local Brewery with Limited/No Distribution. There are obviously world class exceptions like Jester King, but in general these places have mediocre, low cost beer to cater to Blue Moon-drinking townies who want to "drink local" in a hip place.

All I'm currently seeing are 4 beers from Bell's so far....Two Hearted, Oberon, Oarsman and Midest Pale Ale. Two Hearted is a fine floral IPA. Other 3 are mediocre. Wait to see if MD is going to get Expedition, Hopslam, 3rd Coast and a few others that I've found exceptional when acquired out of state in the past.

I agree with Stillwater being overrated. They market themselves as a high-end product but the taste is not quite at that level.

This entire thread is a joke. Maybe we should all appreciate what an amazing time this is for all of us to be drinking well crafted beers in every corner of this great nation. Anyone remember what we had to drink in the mid 90's? I do. It sucked for the most part but we didnt even know it. Now I can drive an hour in any direction and find a dozen great places to drink amazing, well crafted beers. Maybe instead of bitching we should be celebrating. And get off my lawn you kids.

Have to agree with a lot of others here ..FFF would be my choice..ZD is excellent..but all other stuff I've had from them including BADL & Dark Lord Cognac de Muerte were either bad or disappointing..close second would be GI..BCBS & BCBBW are extremely overrated..but the BCBCS was excellent.

I personally don't like their IPA's at all. But, Palo Santo and some of the other bombers are killer.
