Beer Trade Forum Uniform Title Formatting

    I think it would help everyone to add a formatting to the Titles within the Beer trading page. I would like to skim through the headlines for certain beers but some people start with ISO:... and some start with FT:....
    It would be much easier to have everyones post start with "ISO:" or "FT:" universally.
    But as of now I have to skim and scan through each title.

    It would be easy to implement this by the same way this forum is headed.
    So it would be like this
    "{ISO:}Type your ISO beer(s) here{FT:}Type your FT beer(s) here"

    It would also help to have it colored like how the Feature Request prefix is green. This way, it would be clearly defined what follows after ISO and FT.

    We can't hard code this into the form or change the color of the title. Re: Prefixes. They have an entirely different purpose and wouldn't work for this.

    And while we could insist that everyone uses the same title format, it'll no doubt create more moderation.

    There got to be some way of doing so. Anyway, if you all get time it would be great to have this done so the ISO: and FT: are somehow already entered into the title bar so the forum is uniform.

    People already can't put the US zone title prefix in their IP ISO/FT, I highly doubt the higher traffic regular ISO/FT will be able to figure it out. More reports, more work, and more moderation.

    Which is why I suggested coding it into the title for them. Then there wouldn't be more work for you all. Wouldn't more organization make for less moderation?

    Now this may be too much work, but somehow not let them post unless the US zone prefix is entered. That could work for people that dont enter it.

    The prefix for IP trades is mandatory when posting in the IP forum, but it hasn't been applied to the app yet which is why we see some posts without them. It's on @Mike's to do list.

    As for altering the title form field and its display, it's not doable so we need to move on from that idea.

    And we can suggest that people follow a specific format, but this will no doubt result in more moderation if it's enforced; editing titles all day doesn't sound like fun.

    Ah, didn't know that was because of the app.

    Yeah, but I don't see a need to moderate the titles. It's would be a pain to do all that. Guess we can just suggest it to those who post differently.

    First off, I'm not sure if this is even possible but it seems like something that could be useful.

    So as I peruse the trade forums, it seems like there are quite a few new trade posts that don't list both ISO and FT. It got me wondering if there was a way to have a uniform new trade post form to fill out. The form would include an ISO: field, a FT: field and then maybe a Notes: field and all the fields would be required so as to avoid having to tell people to list ISOs or FTs when they don't.

    And for IP trades, maybe a Location: field.

    Is this even possible, @Todd or @Jason?

    Thoughts? Maybe there are issues that wouldn't allow this to work that I'm not seeing.

    So changing the ISO/FT Title field into two separate fields isn't possible?! One for ISO:______ and one for FT:_____

    It would surely require LESS work for moderation and all posts would display in the same uniform manner.

    So the form you guys use in the back end is unalterable? For the Title field specifically, couldn't you add another Title field to the form? Or would a new form create hysteria to all the previous posts with the old form? Thanks

    It's editable, but would require hacking core code (creating another title field, checking two title fields, merging them and formatting them, and then splitting them on edit) for a single purpose which I don't think is critical or even necessary. Most format their titles already, and we don't receive any reports on formatting (unless abusive, we'd ignore them anyway) so there's no concern from a mod point of view either.

    I can see that.

    The bigger picture of why I think it could be useful is if you were then able to add to the functionality of those fields to connect to actual beers in your database, similar to tagging a user. Might be a pipe dream but would provide all sorts of options going forward.
    It would negate the craziness that is all the acronyms. (I know, if only users weren't so lazy!!)
    It would make the search function 10x more useful.
    Etc, etc

    Just a thought.

    What you're suggesting would need to go into the body of the post, and it's already on our long list of ideas; tagging beers, and associating beers with trades.

    I'm locking this one down now as altering the title field isn't going to happen.
