There's so much info in that post, it can be easy to miss the odd detail.

Anyone who's in town should go to Hair of the Dog to try Adam from the Wood aged for five years in 32 yr Heaven Hills barrels. Absolutely unreal! I tried to add it as a new beer but it was flagged as a duplicate, even though it seems very distinct from normal Adam from the Wood.

Cheers for that. Will try and talk the wife into stopping by for a taster after a run to Growler Guys tonight.

Anybody know of any beer events (tastings/ fests, brewery happenings, tap takeovers, or other exciting things) going on in PDX Sep 26-Oct 2? We won't have a car so it kinda has to be in walking distance from public transit.

Thanks for this thread as well. Really helps pin down where there is to go to. Just wondering if there are places, in the time period I will be there, that I should hit up on certain days. Thanks and cheers!

The problem is that most such events tend to take place on the weekend. The time period you're describing is right in the middle of fresh hop season out here, and there are a number of fresh hop festivals going on thoughout September. The one in Portland is on 10/2 and 10/3, so it sounds like you'll just miss it. Regardless, a number of beer bars in town will likely feature a number of fresh hop beers on tap (if not an outright tap takeover), so I would just check the online tap list at places like Belmont Station, Apex, Bailey's, etc.

    Good luck.

I wouldn't particularly say that. There's beer events almost every day of the week in Portland. Yes, big festivals tend to be on the weekend (or the extended weekend, which might start as early as Weds), but smaller release events and tap takeovers happen throughout the week.

But, also... an average day in portland is fairly indistinguishable from a beer festival. Between Apex, Green Dragon, Baileys, and Growler Guys (just to name a few which are easily accessible via transit) you'll find more interesting beers on tap than you can realistically drink. That's, what, 150 tap handles just at those 4 places?

My wife and I didn't make it to any fresh hop festivals last year (unfortunately), but we did just fine making our own festival(s) at the likes of Apex and Baileys.

Might as well just make a sticky of this.

Good! Perhaps I'll run into you there.

That being said, Kevin's comment is nothing about the honest truth. If you're just trying to maximize your opportunity to try as many different local beers as possible, then the places he recommended will certainly do the trick. Depending where you're staying, other beer bars with a large, extensive tap list include the horse brass, Sareveza, Belmont Station, Concordia Alehouse, and the Loyal Legion (at least that's what comes immediately to mind).

Anyone know if the AftW 1978 (that's what they're calling it on unta**d) is still on? I'm heading up in a few hours and would love to get a glass.

Also, anyone know if there are still Special Herbs bottles at Upright? That will be my second stop after HotD.

I'll probably stop at both places regardless, so I'm not exactly sure why I'm posting this. Bump, I guess.

    For the AftW 1978 - 503.232.6585

For Upright - They still had a bunch of case of the Special Herbs at the brewery Saturday evening. And Belmont has it listed as being in stock as well...

I was there yesterday afternoon and was able to enjoy a full pour of the 1978.

Upright was out of bottles by the time I got there around 4pm yesterday. I was at Belmont earlier this afternoon, and I didn't see any there either.

Need to throw a shot out to the guys at Portland Wine and Storage.. They stayed open late for me and hooked me up with low cost 12 bottle shippers. I would def add them to the top summary page.

Would you prefer a hotel or something like AirBnB? If you go the AirBnB route, inner SE is probably your best bet for sheer volume of breweries & beer bars.
