Not once did I say they were the most overrated, simply replied to a comment of someone who thought they were (which I don't agree with). All I'm saying is they are not the best at every single style they attempt like everyone thinks, especially maltier items. Yes, most of what they make is indeed world class and the man treats it like a true craft but there are places getting off the ground around here that I think rival them. Yes, they're ratings are high on BA as everyone on this site has a hard for them. However, when only 100 people, all locals and non-BA rating members are the only ones who have tried a newer spot, it's hard to get recognition. Chill out buddy, prime example of why I spend most of my time on Reddit and not BA.

I really wish all the beers I drink could be as "overrated" as those I've had from Three Floyds.

Here's a semi random list generated by thinking about breweries mentioned in this thread, and wondering what their BA numerical rating was. Inspired by someone mentioning Boulevard and me thinking, who overrates Boulevard?

(picked 24 because a) that was Willie Mays's number and b) that's where I got bored with the exercise:

    1. Hill Farmstead 4.32
    2. Toppling Goliath 4.25
    3. Surly 4.16
    4. Russian River 4.12
    5. Prairie Artisan Ales 4.03
    6T. Stone 4.0
    6T. Wicked Weed 4.0
    6T. Three Floyds 4.0
    9. Avery 3.98
    10. Evil Twin 3.96
    11T. NoDa 3.94
    11T. Sierra Nevada 3.94
    11T. Bear Republic 3.94
    14T. Hardywood Park 3.93
    14T. Ommegang 3.93
    16. Lagunitas 3.92
    17T. Boulevard 3.88
    17T. Oskar Blues 3.88
    19. Mikkeller 3.85
    20. Odell 3.84
    21. DC Brau 3.83
    22. Rogue 3.8
    23. Ska 3.71
    24. Sam Adams 3.66

So this is how we, collectively, rate these breweries. Who stands out as being higher than they should be relative to the other breweries listed? (or use this as a starter kit to see where some of your locals fit in)

My answer is that everybody slots in about where I'd expect, except, as many have said in the thread, Rogue. And (I'm originally from Virginia) isn't Hardywood Park, as good as they are, in pretty lofty company in their numerical rating? I think my Richmond friends are understandably so enthusiastic in their support of this local pioneer that they may have their hometown favorite a tenth or so high.

Looking at this I wish I'd rated some other ones. Here's Trillium: 4.23, they'd be 3d. New Belgium: 3.8, they'd be tied with Rogue and a few hundredths behind DCBrau and Odell. Firestone Walker: 4.03, tied with Prairie.

Finally, a frequently-mentioned brewery in this thread: Green Flash, 3.87, behind Boulevard and Oskar Blues by a hundredth and ahead of Mikkeller by two hundredths and Odell by three. Yeah, that sounds a little over-rated to me.

Darkness (BA or otherwise) is super sweet. I only like it as trade bait. Hurts my teeth almost as much as New Glarus fruits.
Todd is a weak version of Abrasive.
    Furious is meh.
I do like Fest, Hell, and CynicAle in the summer.

Completely disagree about HF and RR(sours).

This brings great perspective. I feel like this has become "what brewery are you annoyed with hearing about the most" and not actually their rating.

Don't care for most things Ballast Point, over priced for what it is, even at a lower price it wouldn't be all that.

All of them. Every single ********ing one. Nothing but over-priced snob beer that only hipsters buy with what's left over from their parents' rent check and I'll fight every one of you over that point.

 Seriously though... I assume we're talking about craft/microbreweries, in which case they'd only be overrated amongst beer geeks and BAs because most are not popular amongst the mainstream. Hard to narrow it down to an entire brewery because to be honest I haven't had enough offerings from any one brewery to really make that judgement. Of all the breweries I've drank from, I've had the most beers from Sam Adams, Sierra Nevada and Dogfish Head. Not sure I'd call any of them "overrated". Although I've had a couple of iffy beers from DFH, namely their Indian Brown Ale, Shelter Pale Ale, Punkin and Saison Du Buff. Punkin was probably the worst of those.

Daisy Cutter was probably one of the most underwhelming beers I've had too for the hype it had. I've tried it a couple times over the years, and I can think of several pale ales that are better.

If Evil Twin counts as a brewery, that gets my vote, if it doesn't I throw in Westbrook

From what I understand, the head brewer doesn't have a brewery, he just contracts. Oddly, a lot of Evil Twin beers are brewed at Westbrook....see my earlier comment

    I could be wrong

Green flash is overrated. Their beers sit on the shelf in so cal. Never been blown away by any of them, they acquired alpine and now can muscle alpine to get bars to put their handles on

Exactly. Sorry a server was bad to you, dude, one time. LOL that's all I hear. FFF makes phenomenal beer. I will agree, though, that their bombers are so expensive. But all bomber are and bombers are a TERRIBLE value (except Lagunitas). FFF makes phenomenal beers and has one of the greatest events annually for one of the most sought-after beers in the US annually. Soy sauce or not, everyone wants Dark Lord. I just sold a Dark Lord for 4x the retail value -- everyone wants it!

I think it is all about the taste and your preference. It'd hard to say overrated for something you love...

Yeah, call me a troll when I literally just said that I'm a not west coast hater. FW, LA, and Alesmith are 3 of my favorite breweries in the world. Guess where they're located...California. And if you're referring to Bells or DFH, Im not alone in this thinking that they're overrated. Seems like you're just a butthurt west coast fanboy who can't accept that the aforementioned breweries aren't to everyones personal taste. If you want to say something smart, let me know. If I had a dollar for every time I heard the word troll on this site or YouTube...well, you get the point. I hate this and the word hipster. Everyone has their own opinions. Learn to respect them instead of being a jackass.

I can see where he's coming from. I like all of those guys, but Dogfish IPAs aren't for everyone, Stone is almost redundant with their IPAs because they all possess similar qualities that are obviously by Stone. Bells is a really nice brewery but few of their beers truly stand out. Hopslam is great but it's not representative of the hype it gets. Sierra Nevada is consistent but has never blown me away with anything. And Green Flash seems to have fallen out of favor with many people
