A recommendation like that makes me want to jump in the car and head to Stillwater NOW!

I'd have to imagine all the crunchberries helped to overwhelm some of the natural off flavors from their beer.

And I'm guessing that General Mills will take any chance to revive a brand that has severely fallen off in the last 10 years. I used to see Wheaties ads everywhere, now I don't even see it on shelves. The gluten free craze may have killed this one.

Also attribute it to the fact that you really don't see as many relevant athletes on Wheaties boxes anymore. That's the only reason I ever bought them. I'd rather have Raisin Bran or shredded wheat (frosted, of course) if I am going to have a "healthier" wheat cereal.

I have no doubt that this beer, like the cereal, will be pretty generic.

Also a good point. I did really enjoy Wheaties when I was in middle/high school and regularly ate cereal though. Maybe this is all a nostalgia play for people now in the 21-35 age bracket.

This is Beer Advocate, GUYS. If you want to talk about cereal, take your thoughts to Breakfast Advocate! *shakes fist*

With that being said, I'll definitely try this beer because I'm a sheep. Would be cool if they did brew it with cereal. I wonder if they will go a traditional hefe route or make some changes to the malt bill to play up the toasty/roasted element a la Wheaties.

Reed's Landing Brewing Company (near Wabasha) has a "Cap'n Amber" which is also brewed with Cap'n Crunch. A little sweet for my taste, but I'll order it in a flight.

Personally. I'd see beer more fitting for athletes than cereal.

One beer will provide hydration, sugar (a relatively small amount, compared to Gatorade), and alcohol (a small reward for being awesome). It's great for a treat; but not fluid replenishment, though. Water is best.
Food will provide fat, protein, starch, fiber, vitamins, and salts; and beer goes great with food.

Cereal without sugar tastes like crap.

As far as this beer goes, however: will try; will not buy.

'“My suspicion is that the quantity we made of this will sell out instantaneously,” said Tucker Gerrick, Fulton’s marketing director.'

Oh Fulton, you never impressed me much, if at all.

HefeWheaties release at the taproom today, only being sold in cans. I think k the beer has plenty of the Wheaties wheat component, but not the estery and refreshing yeast character I look for in a hefe. Can lists 21 ibu but seems a bit more than that to my pallate. As people previously speculated, interesting blend of hops used and neat hop character for a hefe. But not that great to me under normal hefe standards.

"American Wheat beer" is a better description. Very interesting hop bill. Weird that the beer is merely "Wheaties-inspired" and doesn't actually contain the cereal grains.

Yeah, don't see why they call it a hefeweizen when it's using american wheat yeast. Although I guess it never stopped Widmer.

Hefe or American Wheat Beer...either way, sounds like a gimmick & nothing more...I'll stick w/ a sure thing: Schell's Hefe!

Is it more like what some breweries are calling a "white IPA"?

I'm not really interested in this beer other than how bastardized the styles seem to be here.

Any idea when this is supposed to hit stores? I thought I remember hearing mid Sept. I have a trading buddy that wants some. Not sure if I missed it in the stores? Thanks.

I also have a friend who wants me to send him one. I was talking to someone a few weeks back who had it, and he said he wasn't impressed with it. Hopefully it is good.

I liked it. Doesn't sound like it will be hitting stores. Heard it was taproom only this time around.

While I liked it, I thought the can was better than the beer (especially at $5 per can)...and thats probably not a good thing...sick can though

They just tweeted it will hit stores next week. I guess I just should have been more patient.
