?

If all styles were the same ABV, what percentage would you want?

5% and under if all are equal in flavor. Both sessionable and drunkable!

Above 5% and below the point of alcohol over bearing the taste. The abv doesn't matter as much as quality of the beer that i am drinking. I drink many styles so I guess that also makes it a bit tougher to land a specific abv zone.

    That's a tight tolerance there.

Seven is a good number. Strong enough to feel it, light enough not to be overwhelmed too quickly.

This might be backwards... but If nothing changed about the beer, like mouthfeel, taste (including alcohol heat), or anything else....

I'd prefer all beer to be 2% abv. That way i could drink it all and enjoy so much more of it before i started to get fuzzy.

Id prefer hard liquor if i wanted a buzz or to get drunk. Leave that at 40%

Poll poorly written -- fails to distinguish between Hop-D-Ranged (13%), Samichlaus (14%) and DFH 120-Min (18%).

I went with 6%. My reasoning is that my tolerance level for alcohol allows for me to knock back 3-4 6% beers, and not be a blathering idiot. However, that still provides a decent buzz. 5% just seems too low for some reason, and 7% a bit too high.

Yea, I agree. Imagine if you could drink whatever beer you wanted anywhere you wanted. I can do without the alcohol, but I absolutely love the flavor of some styles of beer. Have a Pliny at work? Sure no problem. You want a Prairie Bomb will out for a late Sunday cruise? No problem. Yea, I could get used to that idea. :stuck_out_tongue: :grinning:

I voted for 8%, but I'd really prefer 7.9%, because then most bars will still serve the beers in pints.

Between 4.2% and 18% depending on style of beer, weather, who else is around and what I have to do today and/or tomorrow. What I want after mowing or cycling on an August weeknight is WAY different than what I want on a December Saturday when all I have to think about is switching the tube from football to hoops and back.

I voted 7 but 6.5 would be about perfect. But if the gubbermint set a limit of 6% I could live with that. However, I'm glad not all beers are the same abv (as they mostly were in the pre-craft days). Different beers call for different abv's just as different occasions call for different beers.

I voted 9% I'd rather drink fewer beers that I really enjoy. I have no problem with session beers but I don't have a lot of time for "sessions."

I would cast my vote for 5-7%...
Good drinkable average, not too light /not too strong..
Leaves a good variance for Pils and lagers, IPA's (an IPA with a high ABV and high IBU just isn't my thing)

The statistical correlation factor r value between abv preference and desire to get buzzed? Interesting question. Hope your research yields an answer. Did you get an NSF grant for this research? I bet you could!

And I think 4 allows a good balance of consumption and session length.

Too many variables. 12% and below for BA stouts and barley wines, 8% for IIPAs, 6-7% for IPAs, etc, etc. I don't have one ideal ABV for a specific product

You know that could be a much simpler poll, with a "yes/no" answer choice, right? :stuck_out_tongue:

I'll be honest - I like beer, but most of the time, I tend to drink it for the alcohol in it and the associated brain-numbing stress relief that comes along with. So, my answer to your poll was >10%, and I wasn't dick-waving. I drink imperial stouts year-round, and I like the boozy, BBA versions best... to a point. I am definitely a label-checker when it comes to ABV, because I reckon that a 6% stout is not going to float my boat.

But in all seriousness, it is easy to throw some heavy thought into answer consideration here. I don't know what a 10.5% farmhouse ale tastes like, and if it existed it would probably suck. So, I can't imagine big-bore ABV is a good match for "all styles," but that's what the poll question leads us to. It's all good.
