Right now there are 35 or so new breweries about to open upon in the planning stage in NJ so some folks seem to think it's worth it.

Slightly off topic but how long are going to have to wait for an update on whether NJ residents can order alcohol/beer online. "Update Pending" to number 8 has been a few years now... uggh

So I don't know if I've been doing it illegally, but I have ordered beer and wine online out of state and shipped it into NJ. I haven't ordered anything intrastate though.

I guess they are OK with the restrictions, regulations and absurd liquor license structure and fees in this state. I'm not.

Interesting read, thanks for posting. Reminds me of what I went through went I got a mortgage from my bank. So they got the license. The state did not have to give them the license, so I'm not sure how much FB really muscled their way into a license as OP suggests. Even with all the questions about the source of funding the state ultimately approved. OP, as a consumer why do you care? In the end the beer will speak for itself and those making great beer will flourish.

I've been buying wine on line for over 10 years.

Beer is a different story. A lot of online stores wont ship to NJ. Heck, I been bugging Chris from CraftBeertemple.com (Chicago) to ship to NJ for a while now. He wont until the laws are clear. Although France44 (Minn) still ships to NJ i think.

Their Refuge society memberships are going up to $100. Limited to 150 people.

Unfortunately a tad underwhelming. Basically $100 for glassware, early bottle purchasing rights (still gotta buy the bottles), and other "perks."

This is solid pass for me, unfortunately.

Agree. Basically you're paying $100 for early access to some beer and saying you're 1 of 150.

Was browsing the boards and saw this. How was this even allowed to happen?

That does explain how two kids were able to get the money to start a 5,000 bbl brewery. Having tried to get funding for a brewery in another state, something always seemed off about their story. A google search of Seth Dolled gave me this.:
