Amazing how people forget their deep, principled commitment to free speech once something they actually care about is publicly insulted.

Not sure anyone has suggested their free speech rights be squashed. I fully support their right to say what they want. Not sure I've heard anyone else say that right should be taken from them. I'm free, too, to say what I want and, in a free market economy, buy what I want and from whom.

Free speech in private affairs is different than Amendment 1.

I know that, but I'm in the minority.

People are proud by where they are from. For us New Englanders, we have a lot to be proud for. Our history, our beer, our food and our very successful (in recent years) American Football team among other things. The success of Tom Brady and what he has accomplished has an immediate impact on all of us who are proud New Englanders. He may not be from here originally, but he is a resident now and represents New Englanders. Stand up with Tom Brady! Stand up for New England!

When did craft beer drinkers lose their sense of humor? When I read comments like some of those above, I'm reminded of those macro beer commercials suggesting we are all laughable. I had never even heard of Sun King Brewery, but after checking out the ratings of the beer in question, (and seeing the Brady Bunch from MA slamming a beer they'd obviously never had just because they felt a shot to their collective balls left them as tender as Brady's footballs) I am starting to think the beer commercials got it right. Pathetic. As for Oskar Blues, they make a great product. If you're going to boycott them over this, you boys better start wearing a cup.

No need to boycott Oskar, we already have Tree House, Night Shift and Trillium among other very good local beers.

Take the age group into account. The humourless SJWs are dominating the craft scene right now. Many sheep not in that demo are still following suit. Just a microcosm of what is happening most everywhere. Sad shit.

As someone from Colorado this thread was just too good not to comment on! I heard about the Sun King beer, thought it was silly, then heard about the response from a NE brewery I wasn't familiar with, thought it was kind of sad. I had yet to hear about OB entering the fray, but I agree with previous posts that A. It comes off as childish and was kind of a dumb move for OB, B. Who the hell is Biscuit and how would most people know what that means? The whole thing is ridiculous and I think OB should just focus on making better beer, because this new IPA is mediocre at best. Don't boycott it because of football, boycott it because your local IPAs are way better!

The important question is , Is it better than Dales pale ale( actually an IPA)? Not a fan but will try this IPA

    Enjoy

I'm honestly shocked that anyone would care enough about someone saying that so-and-so's team/player sucks to not buy their beer.

It's sports. People say it about other's teams and players all the time. There's no reason to take it personally or get butt hurt. Who gives a shit about someone you don't even know's opinion anyways?

Are we such a sensitive society that we can't give each other a good old fashioned light hearted ribbing anymore?

    Who cares?

As long as they don't put hate speech on the bottom of the can it is a non issue.

No one boycotts ESPN when they say a team is awful, say things about players, or anything else for that matter.

Focus on things that actually matter.

Like people being offended for the smallest things. It is a serious problem. If it doesn't hurt you, walk away and forget about it.

I think that the point that some of the users in this thread were making was that it was bizarre that a company would sell a product in a market that dissed a particular "favorite person/team" in the area (Tom Brady). I'm sure the message OB left on their cans didn't make much of a difference to the psyche of the average craft beer consumer in New England, but why chance it? Cheers!

EDIT: I think people outside New England/American football culture fail to realize is that our football teams are a piece of our very souls….may be unusual, but the same applies to other sports as well. "Brand loyalty"

Putting anything on your beer label, can or bottle that isn't directly associated with what is inside the container or required by law is pretty distasteful in my honest opinion. Heck, they could put "Piss on Dodge" or "US Politics is Broken" on the bottom of the can and I would feel the same way. It should be about beer and not someone's personal views or agenda.

Forgot to mention. Take a look at the Pliny the Elder bottle, Trappist Westvleteren 12 bottle or a Parabola bottle and you will see a theme. Plain ass bottles and damn good beer. Its what's inside that does the talking.

Well, I'm not into sports really at all (except for a bit of tennis), but I think it's quite amusing that a sports fan could be so passionate and sensitive about their favorite team that they'd be deterred from an otherwise good beer over this. Guess I don't get it.

Then again, I also wouldn't care if they printed "Long live the 3rd Reich" on the bottom of Ten Fidy cans. Print the most offensive thing you can on the things! I'll still buy it if it's delicious. Political correctness and self-censorship can die for all I care. I give not a damn.

    C'mon...
I'm guessing folks who get rattled by a couple of words on the bottom of beer cans also played little league sports where no score was kept. Your moms and school counselors aren't here to give you positive reinforcement. This is beer. Let's get on with being men and sack up.

You know what they say. Everyone should date a Patriots fan. They don't care if you cheat.

If you are bothered by them poking fun at a ridiculous situation, you either need to drink a lot more or a lot less.
