As a Cville native, that'd be something (well, depending on what the "beverage company" ends up being).

Love their use of the word "beverage company." They like to drum up the chatter. HA! Could be Deschutes but last I heard in the rumor about them was they were really leaning towards NC.

Just an unsubstantiated thought but given the AB connection to Starr HIll, wonder if another AB connected brewery that needs east coast distro - Elysian could be it?

Also, Ninkasi and Coronado have teamed up with Devil's Backbone. Maybe one of those breweries liked what they saw.

Well, I love Charlottesville and have been going there since 1966. My brother is a UVA grad and I used to go to his fraternity house when I was in high school and it's been love ever since. I hope they land a good "beverage company".

It's hard not to like what you see there but please don't let it be Coronado.

Funny, but that was similar to what I first typed out as well!

Ballast point was rumored to be scouting Richmond a few months back.

Gotta say, fresher Ballast Point on the East Coast would make it easier for me to justify the ridiculous prices charged for their beer. I like their stuff, but often not starting at $12 per sixer.

Interesting. I have "mixed" feelings about Coronado as well. What is your concern? Is it price relative to quality, or elsewhere?

It's mostly just me being snobby about it since Coronado's beer is not bad by any stretch of the imagination but, rather, is simply OK to me. (And in the handful of beer-centric trips I've made to San Diego, I've never once had a local tell me that I have to get to Coronado.) So, if we -- C-ville, still "home" -- were going to get a San Diego-area brewery, there are several others I'd prefer to see make Albemarle County their East Coast home.

That said: I gather they're nice folks since Joey & Co. at CCB continue to do collaborations (and even a beer cruise) with them. Further, more power to any company that brings 100 jobs to an area.

:rolling_eyes:Speaking of Joey and CCB ... Neither story explicitly states that "West Coast" in this case means California, Oregon, Washington. I mean, I currently live on the "West Coast" of Florida not far from Cigar City.:wink::stuck_out_tongue: (Yes, I'm pointlessly stirring the pot. It's a joke.)

TL;DR: I'd just rather it be Ballast Point or Lost Abbey or [any one of a number of other SD-area breweries] if it's going to be one from that area.

I'm an old Charlottesville hand going back decades. My brother's a PBK UVA grad and a doctor and I've had relatives from back into the 1840s attend, graduate, and some of them die in the effing Civil War. It is a really beautiful historic place and I can understand why a west coaster would be enamored of the place.

For sure! And aside from the aesthetics, it would put a company between the I-81 north-south corridor and the I-95 corridor, effectively covering the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Southeast.

And, of course Bumpass and the Old Jerdone Castle down I-64. I went to The U of R and dearly love the region.

story says it's "next to" property owned by "Virginia Eagle Distribution Co" which sounds like a Bud distributor to me, though in my day (1971-1979), the Bud distributor was JW Sieg, on Ivy Road, but times change...

Hey, I wouldn't mind CCB in RVA! There's certainly big love among An Bui (but how can you NOT love that guy?!), CCB and Hardywood.
