I'm going to a wedding in Phoenix in September (location: 6750 N 7th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85013). Only golfed once in Scotsdale before.

    1. I keep reading about crappy hotels around here - should I stay somewhat farther away (i.e. is this a "bad area").
    2. More importantly - any beer spots close to here?

    Cheers from San Diego

not that its a bad area, just not a great beer area. Sun Up Brewing is the only real beer worthy spot near that address currently until North Mountain opens up. You may want to consider Camelback corridor, Scottsdale or Tempe.

Are you sure that's where you're staying? I googled that address and it was a church. That is a dead zone for beer too.

I think he said that was the location of the wedding!

We are currently at the Hyatt Place Phoenix North, which is perfectly nice. But I'd stay in Scottsdale, somewhere near Old Town (I enjoyed the Saguaro if you like boutique "hotels that used to be motels") so you are right close to Papago Brewing.

Beer aside.... I wouldn't want to stay in that area.

Closest options for decent hotels is downtown I guess. There's the Hilton Tapatio which is alright too. But if the wedding is on a weekend I'd just stay somewhere nice in Scottsdale and drive 20 mins to the wedding. Better restaurants, shopping, and just overall nicer part of the valley.

Some of the best golf is in Scottsdale, but the best ones are usually private clubs. Probably best public course in that area is at the TPC itself and they have great summer rates. Check their website.

I would consider staying at the Hilton Squaw Peak. Only about 5 minutes from the church and Rico's at the hotel has a pretty good beer selection, plus you are close to Sun Up, Moto, Garage, Windsor and a few others.

Thanks for all your help! Yeah, a lot of the hotels around there on review sites were terrible (dirty, cars broken into, etc.).
