How does Azacca compare to Citra to your palate? Have you ever brewed using Azacca for flavor additions and then Citra for aroma additions?

    Cheers!

Do you remember what number or code they're using? the new SN "Newly Developed Hop" IPA has a bit of a cocoa aroma to it, and I'm curious if they used that same hop to achieve the flavor.

I thought Ron Mexico was Michael Vick's alias.

They really don't taste similar at all to me. Citra is full on juicy citrus with hints of tropical fruit while Azacca is almost the opposite with the focus on the tropical fruit. I bet they would go great together with Azacca for flavor and Citra for the dry hop...might just brew that IPA next

Interesting replies here (in a good way). I'm not a huge hop head and not up to date on everyones favorite hops. But, my guess would Citra or Nelson.

I'm trying out an Azacca-heavy combination on my latest "Champ" IPA - 8 oz Azacca, 4 oz Lemon Drop, 4 oz Mosaic, and 4 oz Kohatu. I'm bottling tomorrow. The last hydrometer reading smelled and tasted heavenly! Nice mix of tropical fruits with a subtle pine finish.

The NeoMexicanus hop was known as Chuck's Mexican, after the guy who had the breeding program way back. When the new guys crossed it, it was when when Vick got into trouble and In the news with his alias, so they said they then had a name. It could change when released, but it could stay Ron Mexico.

I'm trying to breed a hop that gives off aspects of barnyard, horseblanket, and feet.

Jack, have you ever tried Hop Ranch by Victory? As far as I know, that one has Azacca and Mosaic.

Hmm, Citra tastes full-on tropical fruit to my palate.

Discussing hop varieties and flavors/aromas is extremely challenging since particular hops taste differently to each individual.

Please report back how your Azacca/Citra hopped IPA tastes to you. I have absolutely zero idea how that will relate to me.

    Cheers!

Yes, I have. To me Hop Ranch has a very noticeable dank aspect which I personally do not like. My 'suspect' here is the Azacca hop since I have brewed a number of beers featuring Mosaic (a Mosaic IPA and others) and Mosaic consistently tastes fruity to me (berry fruits). I have never perceived dank when brewing with Mosaic. Maybe the dank that I persoanlly perceive in Hop Ranch is a combo effect? Maybe if I brewed an all Azacca hopped beer it would be dank for my palate? Geez, I just don't know.

I tried to 'pick' @DrMindbender 's brain here but since his palate is very different wrt Citra than mine I am unsure what to say here.

    Cheers!

Yeah, to me Mosaic might be the most singularly fruity hop I've ever encountered in IPAs. I wouldn't expect a Mosaic hopped beer to be particularly "dank," so it's gotta be the Azacca, probably in combination.

I had a peach wild ale- Grimm Rainbow in Curved Air- that was dry hopped with Jarrylo and Azacca, and it was quite fruity. Of course, it's really hard to delineate the fruitiness as being from the hops or the peach, so it doesn't say a whole lot, unfortunately. I feel like Grimm used Azacca hops in this instance because Azacca hops are supposed to give off a stone fruit flavor.

There's a new one down here in Australia that they are calling Milky Way (Galaxy, geddit?) I had a pale ale with it the other day, really fruity with some resin in the back. I was a fan for sure. Not sure when it's gonna hit the market OR if it will come out as Milky Way.

Grimm also dry hopped its Gose with that combination. Medusa Brewing in MA also had single hopped versions of Mandarina Bavaria and Huell Melon. They are definitely trendy right now.

I have not heard that but can definitely see the crossover there. Big fan of simcoe as well, which makes sense haha.
