    I know the brewpub I'm about to mention isn't in the United States but if you ever make your way to New Brunswick (Canada), I highly recommend you check out Pump House in Moncton. Excellent pub food (the brick-oven pizza is heavenly) and the beer is A1.

    Are breweries brew pubs?

    My limited-experience answers are:

    Brew pub: Blackwater Draw (College Station, TX)
    Brewery: Jester King (Austin, TX)

    I've also visited Karbach, Lone Pint, 8th Wonder and Buffalo Bayou breweries in the Houston area; Martin House in Fort Worth; and New Republic here in Bryan-College Station, and I enjoyed all of them. Nothing beats drinking at the source.

    In Michigan a brewpub is a different license. A brewpub can serve spirits and wine. A brewery cannot, unless they have other licenses. Founders is a brewery taproom, not a brewpub in Michigan. Brewpubs cannot distribute, Founders distributes all over.
