I will continue to drink a bad beer until I complete a rating, but if it is more unpleasant than pleasant, why continue? If i'd rather drink water than, say, more of that Pink Killer, the wise thing to do is to pour it put.
Drinking (eating, fixing, etc.) something just because you've previously invested in it is irrational -- a well-known cognitive error known as the Sunk Cost effect.

If the beer isn't that good I will drain pour it. For instance, if I am drinking an IPAD and I am not enjoying it and I have one in the fridge that I enjoy more, why waste my time drinking something I don't like?

I'm not ashamed to admit I've poured out beers that I was not too keen on. To me it seems a bit foolish to force oneself to finish a beer that's not enjoyable.

I think some of the backlash is possibly due to the connotation of the term 'drain pour'. IMO it seems to give meaning that the beer is not worthy of being consumed at all & should never have been made in the first place. I certainly don't feel this strongly when I pour out a beer I'm not enjoying. It's just I'd rather not finish it. So I will not refer to it as 'drain pour' but rather as 'proper disposal'

I rarely drink a beer that is skunky, infected or off. Occasionally I will pour out a beer that is poorly made or that doesn't agree with me.

I'll only pour out a beer if it's so unpleasant that I really do not want to finish it -- if it actually tastes good but is too sweet/bitter/etc. to drink quickly, I'll just drink it more slowly than usual. Same as with food pretty much -- if something is just too nasty for me to finish, I won't finish it; if on the other hand it's just really spicy or really rich and I'll need to slow down and/or get something to drink with it (or bag it up in the fridge to finish another day), then I'll do that.

Even when a beer is just plain bad right away, I try to give things a chance first before dumping them, hoping that even if something's iffy at first it might improve once I get past the first few sips. Sometimes it does, other times... not so much.

But if I've been slowly sipping my way through a glass of something for half an hour or more and still am not even halfway through it because it's just that gross, why the heck would I keep drinking it?

Drain pouring is a badge of honor among some BAs.

Others view it as a cardinal sin.

I don't drain pour, and I try not to rip those who do ... free country and all ... but I can see how a non-drainpourer would be aggravated by the beer-hoarding, haul-pic posting, Top 250-only drinking crowd who loves to tell you about how such-and-such beer was so bad that had to drain pour it, bro. It's like the scene in Broadway Danny Rose when the two gangsters are burning money in front of each other, arguing over who cares less about more ... or whatever they're arguing over.

I have no strong feelings about "drain pours" one way or another.

In 5 years, there have been perhaps 5 beers that I didn't finish, most recently a Colt 45.

If I just can't finish and I'm that drunk... or something that's definitely "off" due to being stored improperly or infected, more specifically homebrew in bottles when I first started doing it.

Rarely do I pour things out now. Beer = money, because:

if it ain't infected or old then I drink it. I may not like it. I may not want to but I drink it.

If I taste a beer and it's bad enough to make me doubt my ability to continue, I'm not going to continue to put it in my mouth. Simple as that. Drinking beer shouldn't be a fucking test of endurance. I would never continue to put anything in my mouth repeatedly, be it food or beverage, that isn't enjoyable...unless it's been cooked by my wife or in-laws...

I feel like the definition of insanity has an application here.

I have to wonder who the "puss" is ... the person pouring out the beer or the person worried about what someone else does in the privacy of their own home.

I pour out beer that I don't enjoy every once in a while. It generally is an IPA that sat in the back of the fridge too long. I said it in another thread, but I'm very conscious of the calories I take into my body, and am somewhat of a health nut - so why would I force myself to consume 200+ calories of a beer that I don't even want? Seems like a very logical decision to me.

I try to get around the "wasting beer" part by doing what I can to cook with it. If I'm making dinner, I'll figure out a way to incorporate it into whatever I'm making - or plan my meal around it. If I'm not ready to cook I'll throw some plastic wrap and a rubber band over the top and throw it back in the fridge - don't care if I'm cooking with flat beer. Generally this works out pretty good.

It's rare, but I've done it. Though, even it absolutely sucks, I'll try to have at least 4-5 oz before drain pouring it.

X2. I don't like dumping a beer and I give it a solid effort, but if I really really hate it I'm not going to force it down my throat regardless of cost.

With the 45 you need to serve it correctly, outside on a gritty street curb clothed in a crumpled paper bag cozy.
