For what it is, being 18%abv, I enjoyed it a lot. They did a fantastic job masking the alcohol. At the time I tried it it was rare in my area and I stumbled upon it in an unlikely pizza joint, so perhaps the rareness added to my enjoyment, now that it is everywhere I am going to revisit it again.

I like it both fresh and aged. I have yet to have any over the 2 year or so mark, but I am hanging onto a bunch of bottles for aging. I generally tend to split a 12 ounce bottle with somebody when I open one, FWIW.

So you don't want all 500+ calories to yourself?

That's part of it, too. I just enjoy it more in small doses!

Is it a lot different on tap and if I have to opportunity should I try it? I cant imagine it being THAT different but who knows.
I had one bottle and probably wouldn't buy another. Way too sweet for me and just kinda odd. I suppose part of it is because going in you expect a hop bomb, even says it on the bottle, and you get pretty much no hops at all. Im not dropping 10 dollars on a bottle when I can take that same 10 and go grab 5 other 6 or 4 packs that are better.

I had it on tap last weekend. It was served very cold so the flavors were quite subdued but it didn't come across as big and boozy. Nice hop presence, no way would I guess it was 18% from that pour. Tasted more like an 8% Double IPA. Personally I prefer it out of the bottle.

If you hated it so much and had to literally pour it down a drain, why wouldn't you just get rid of it to someone who enjoys it? Just sayin.

I put it away with all my other beer hoping it would get better with age. The bottle says "ages well." I fully intend on opening this with a friend who enojys this beer...just sayin...

I cannot call this beer a IPA, or even an DIPA. Its a hoppy Barley wine to me. I used to buy it when it was lots cheaper, now its way too expensive for me. btw its not hoppy tasting, its sweet, I only say hoppy bw because:wink: they say they its 120 IBU or whatever that 120 means,

The fact that they say its 120 ibus is almost laughable, because to me its not even a little bit bitter.

That was your first mistake. It's a completely different beer when enjoyed fresh.

Obvious. Asking for an opinion on a beer in the forum when there's nearly 1,800 opinions already.

I had it last Summer and did not care for it. Reminded me of paint thinner with a touch of apricot.

I love these fresh. It is one of the few DFH beers I like. I have drainpoured more DFH than any other brewery :slight_frown:

The 120 means hop additions every 1 minute for 120 minutes IIRC.

Agreed. When it comes to 120, I actually prefer it with some age on it. I think it's a good cold weather beer to sip on as it warms. I don't care for it much fresh - it reminds me of a hoppy barleywine which isn't one of my favorites either.

This beer is much better fresh. Do not listen to the bottle, do not age! (Unless you're just experimenting and don't mind hurting the beer)

This is actually a good call. Next time I drain pour a beer, I am going to buy another one and chuck it in my cellar for future consumption.
