Here is a similar thing I find annoying; when I tell people I like to try out different kinds of beers they act like I'm some frat boy drunk. They don't understand that when I do a tasting, I rarely get drunk (I'm not drinking to get drunk). But they have that correlation and attitude about it. What is dumb though, is that often times these same people are the one's that love wine and will sample tons of wines (getting drunk) and know soooooo much about it. They're seen as classy whereas I'm not. Whatever!

I have a couple of relatives that think the same way. Do I care what they think? Nope, not in the least, and neither should you. I maybe have a beer each night, except the weekends. Weekends? Now, that's a different story. This weekend I'm going crazy; probably have the equivalent of 6 per day. Last weekend? None for me. I had things that needed to get done. You are the best guide as to whether you have a problem. Is it affecting your work, marriage/relationship, or family life? If so, you may have a problem. Quit worrying about what others think of you.

I drink 2-3 beers a day. No matter what the abv I space em out so I don't get drunk and remain in control of my actions.. People could say drinking everyday is an alcoholic but I feel that it's more of a hobby. If u have 2-3 sodas a day are u addicted to caffeine? I would say if anything I'm obsessed with hoarding beer

    Are you asking me?
    Or telling me!

First let us address the grammatical error.

    I am an alcoholic?
    I am an alcoholic!
    I am, an alcoholic.

    Or maybe like Christopher Walken.

    "I am an, alcoholic"?

But on the real yo. What and/or who/whom decides you are indeed an alcoholic?
If you are asking. Then maybe you have a genuine concern?
I say forget societal norms. Drink when you want as well as what you want.
If feel that your drinking gets out of hand. STOP. If you can't recognize when it has become an issue. Hopefully someone that cares will inform you. And when they do..... Listen like your life depends on it. Because it probably does.

If you're asking the question, probably not. A true alcoholic wouldn't ask anyone....or admit it.

You hit the nail on the head. He isn't asking, he is making a statement. I don't have a dedicated beer fridge and I drink 5 days+ per week. Not all truths are being told here.

Yep, I've gotten that one a few times. Sometimes I can get quite loose-tongued after a large flight of samples plus a pint or two, so that does not help the cause. But I don't ever get sloshed when drinking for the taste. Everybody has their own concept of what is acceptable and that is their business, not ours. I contend that as long as I stop before I get drunk, don't do it every damn night, and don't drive under the influence I'm within my limits.

I think don't listen to them, listen to yourself, and remember, your only an alcoholic if you go to the meetings! to alcohol !, the cause of , and solution to... all of lifes problems!

    Please allow me to retort....
Your only an alcoholic if you go to meetings? Really, this is the advice you want to give?

If you do heroin everyday, you are in fact a heroin addict. It is not the attendance of a meeting that quantifies the fact.

One of my good friends drinks a gin and tonic or three EVERY night. He owns his own company and lives ina $2million house. No one calls him an alcoholic. Same drinking, under employed and living in a trailer they would. Maybe instead of getting sober you should just get rich!

Actually it seems like the general consensus for craft beer is that we are all alcoholics. If you say you enjoy wine tastings or bourbon tastings then people don't think much about it. When it comes to beer they don't understand that it is the same culture. They just figure beer is a cheap drunk and the only reason you would spend any amount of time doing it is because your an alcoholic. Despite the fact the wine drinkers and frequently alcoholics too but that is more refined and does not come off that way.
