Man, I really want to try this. I hope it hits my area soon. I've never had any Australian hops before, and I really want to try. Plus any IPA by Stone is automatically a must-have.

I've had this several times now. The mix of dank and tropical is so beautifully executed I can't get enough. I'd love to see Stone re-release it later or make it a part of the regular lineup.

Stone bombers for $7.00? Never seen one. Anniversary beers will never see sixers, they don't brew enough to warrant it. One and done.

Copped a growler fill on a recent trip to South Carolina. Definitely worth having if you can score some.

A bit surprised by all the love. I found it a bit underwhelming. I liked the distinct fruity hops, peach and apricot, maybe, but it just didn't seem balanced to me. The various hops flavors were all over the place, and I found the flavors very muted. A good beer, but nothing special IMO. OTOH, I loved RuinTen.

I make it simple. If a bomber is something I don't think I'll like, I won't pay for it. If it is $9 and I can only get it once, that is fine by me.

We all decide with our wallets. I didn't hesitate to buy Thunderstruck when I saw it.

maybe it was my bottle, maybe it is my palette but this was pure onion/garlic to me, zero tropical fruit like I hoped.

I see this comment just often enough...and not just for this beer, but select other uber-hoppy beers as well...to surmise that it is indeed your palette. AND the palettes of a select group of others. I suspect that there may be some sort of genetic commonality that those who get the super strong garlic / onion thing must have. Most it appears, don't get it at all.

I know that there's some other triggers in genetics when it comes to taste perception. Some folks can taste a certain kind of bitter, can't stand cilantro...or heck, can roll their tongues, have earlobes or don't. You know, stuff we learned in high school.

What I'm not familiar with is if there is a recognized genetic trigger factor that's already been uncovered for the garlic/onion think for some hoppy beers. I suspect it because it really seems like there's a lot of people that get little to none, and yet some select folks get a LOT.

    Anyone?

Absolutely, I am sure this is most likely it. Of the 5 people who shared it 2 out of 5 got the onion/garlic thing and the other three got tropical mango/pineapple.

That's really interesting. The first time I tried this is was at a bottle share and I was underwhelmed, but a friend of mine loved it. I didn't get any garlic though. The second time I was blown away. I think my tastebuds were shot by too many Spurs the first time around.

Had it today, it was like a mix of new style hoppy IPA/dipa with the aroma and fresh hoppy flavors combined with the classic heavy bitterness. As a New Englander it was like second fiddle mixed with arrogant bastard.

Also the onion/garlic thing is something I've heard people say about atleast one batch of second fiddle, I don't taste the flavors but it had similar flavors to me to the batch of second fiddle I heard those complaints about.

Thought this was very well done. Wish it was priced a little better than what I paid, prob wouldn't buy another due to the fact that there are many other cheaper options, just as good, out there in smaller formats, but def worth a try.

I've gotten the onion aftertaste on DIPA's only if I have eaten raw onions earlier in the day, in a salad usually. The sulfur in raw onions can kind of coat your digestive tract for hours depending on how strong they were and how much you ate.

A good palette cleanse (brush teeth, scrape tongue) is always in order before any tasting, especially ipa's.

I had Thunderstruck last night and it was pretty good. I still prefer Enjoy BY more because it evokes more of a maltiness.
Was drinking it side by side with Hop Freshener Lemon & Grassy, and I kind of preferred that more.

I found the taste to change as the beer warmed. I like to leave the bottle out when enjoying a bomber so I can try it at slightly different temperatures. The first sip at fridge temperature was wonderful - very tropical and refreshing. I did notice a little of the garlic/onion flavor as the beer warmed. Not offensive, but a little noticeable. I can see the differences based on how the beer was served - real cold or cellar temps. Had a 4beans in the same evening, which is opposite of this beer. I would serve/drink Thunderstruck a bit on the colder side where 4beans really shines after it warms up. The bottle of Thunderstruck I had was extremely fresh, so stale hops couldn't have been a factor.
