Well, it appears that Jever is using a best by timeframe greater than one year.

I wonder what the best by timeframe really is?

    Cheers!

P.S. This 'better' explains how @Ranbot was able to buy a case of Jever with a best by date of 07/2016.

Very odd. Must be the futuristic beers Jever sends to Canada.

Since Jever is owned/distributed by DAB, I bet they have the same BB. Could it be easier to figure out DAB's BB on their flagship?

Not sure, but it's worth a try.

And in the US, their import arm is:

BINDING BRAUEREI USA INC. (aka RADEBERGER GRUPPE USA on some labels)
    194 MAIN ST
    NORWALK, CT 06851
    (203) 229-0111

Under construction  website Binding USA Beers

A German email which covers North America (other than Canada, apparently).

But, unlike most of the other Radeberger brands, in the US Jever is imported by Raven.

Yes, the "under construction" website is clearly an matter which predates the merger with Latis, last year (2014).
The site may as well be defunct for the purpose of our area of inquiry.

I am in in contact with Mr. Raven at present, and have also addressed an inquiry to their export division.

Damn, that was it - the merger with Latis! I knew there was a reason I had all those sites bookmarked! It appears they both continue to use a separate TTB ID number for the two groups.

    CT-I-15061 - LATIS
CT-I-331 - BINDING BRAUEREI USA INC

Maybe so, and I'm fine with that. I'll probably pick up Radeberger some day for comparison if I see it fresh.

Please share with me your thoughts on Radeburger. I have consumed a fair number of Radeburger Pils and I have my personal thoughts on this beer.

    Cheers!

Sounds like a test! :grimacing: If I find something fresh to try I will report back.

I have. I copied some info from various sites, including here and a German forum.
    100% German Pils malt
    100% Hallertau hops (I think I did FWH, 60, 30, 10, though that's likely not traditional)
    40 IBU,
Sulfate to 65 to 80 ppm
Mash temp: 145 (I mashed for 90 min)
WLP802 as it finishes pretty dry.

Having living in northern Germany for a while, and having had fresh Jever, this was pretty close

Just picked up a 50L of Jever for my kegerator (my wife is from Bremen, so she loves me more than usual now). FWIW, code date is L 131 and best before 05/2016. I am assuming they have 12 months on this, so I'm fairly happy with the age.

Yep, looks like early May to me. I'd be doing drunken fucking jumping jacks with a Jever kegged in May compared to what we usually get in the US.

Douglas, are you assuming that L 131 equates to a packaging date of the 131st day of 2015?

    Cheers!

When I lived in Luebeck, we got it in cans all the time. So far as I can tell, we only get (green) bottles here, sadly.

That will make something like Jever. I like WLP 830=34/70 for mine.

I've used 34/70 for four pilsners (and several Marzens as well), and I have liked it, but none of the pilsners finished below 1.010 despite low mash temps. The WLP802 finished at 1.007, which I liked better. But I think either is a fine choice.

    Edit: Isn't 34/70 = WLP820?
