Please quote where anyone said they're all bad.

Those who know me down here can attest that I've done quite a bit of volunteer work for brewers and breweries down here. And I find your backpeddling on the diacetyl thing funny now that other people are corroborating my experience. Perhaps you know less than you might think.

As for Wakefield "hate," it will have only jumped the shark when the problems with the brewery are no longer justified. But as you can see, people still have pretty legitimate gripes with how things are being handled. As for the "well it was good at the brewery" excuse, that's all well and good, but what about anyone else who is getting the beers are neighboring bars and you can taste diacetyl, ethyl acetate, and isolaveric acid? Is "well, it's good at the brewery" a valid argument? BA Bonita at Buddha is also stellar any time it goes on draft at the brewery, but we all know what people have thought about versions of it that left the brewery.

Brewing in South Florida is stronger than ever. And I do think Wakefield is capable of great stuff. La Nada is downright GREAT, and the hazelnut coffee porter was good (which, by the way, was a mistake beer that they covered up by extracting the ever-loving Christ out of it, what skill!), Stush is alright, and the Black IPA was alright. The rest I've had have been average or below average (the Hop for Teacher I had was highly astringent on the back end).

Considering now you have places like Barrel of Monks (their brewer is the first professional brewer to do really high level Berliners down here, but I'm sure you knew that), Buddha Lounge, MIA, Wynwood, OddBreed, and quite a few others all doing very strong beers with little to no off flavors, I just fail to understand why everyone is so high on a brewery that is churning out mid-tier stuff. Especially a brewery who seems to show contempt for their best customers on a fairly consistent basis.

Can reservations be moved to a different name? I am a member in Cali and not attending, but I have stopped even emailing questions that go unanswered from J.

    You asked:

I made an accurate summary statement based on your reply and krafty's, where the focus was on berliners. Lets not get into semantics now -- "hey djben I didn't literally say "ALL" the beers were "bad"!!!" -- my comment was valid given the context.

I suspected this and that's why I asked -- I otherwise have no idea who you are.

I'm glad you are amused, but I didn't backpedal at all.

In fact, these are my exact words in my first reply, which I think you missed in haste :

In reading the recent comments on this thread, I'm just trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together as a craft beer fan, and I think I've done just that.

The beer you've experienced from JW seems has been in the form of the kegs or growlers that made it out of the brewery, which is almost the exact opposite of my experience -- most everything I've had was at the brewery, a few very nearby bars (Boxelder, The Abbey) or perhaps Hunahpu Day. After being in operation for only 8 months, by my estimation you've had only a very small range of the beer he's been brewing which has, by and large, only been available at the brewery.

I'm not here to make excuses for anyone or say everything is perfect with how things have gone with the launch of the brewery. The only dog I've got in this fight is being a simple and objective advocate of amazing beer.

At least anyone else reading these comments will now have a better perspective on where your statements (and mine) are coming from.

And for those of you who want to find out for yourselves just how "mid-tier" Wakefields beer is, the brewery is hosting a Floridaweisse bash this Saturday (29th) with eight other visiting Florida breweries (7venth Sun, Angry Chair, Cigar City, Green Bench, Green Room, MIA Brewing, Proof, Wynwood). If you go and still think all his berliners are diacetyl and dirty dishwater bombs, you've got plenty of others to enjoy during your visit

Whatevs. I've had maybe 20 JWB beers over the past couple years and all have ranged from quite good to phenomenal. His business acumen, however, clearly leaves much to be desired.

If anyone else who is an OG that can not make it but wants to get their bottle let me know. I will be going and would love to have someone join me so we can trustee your bottle. And of course your bottle won't be shipped solo, that's just a waste of shipping. Let me know.

Barrel of Monks does not brew Berliners. They only brew Belgian beer styles. I should know, their tap room is 100 feet from my office.

I agree that his beer is much better than what is being posted on this thread. I've been to the brewery a few times including a few weeks ago when he had over 20 sour beers on tap. The DFPF, Miami Madness and Cuvee de Wakefield were great. He also does a very good Peach Berliner, the hazlenut stout is excellent (mistake or not) and the Hop for Teacher and 24th Street are very good but inconsistent (not always the best it can be), I can't say much for his business practices but I can say when I see him at the brewery he seems like a strange dude.

You know where that brewer started right? He was doing berliners professionally before any other brewer down here, including Wake. He's not doing berliners right now, but if he decided to start doing them again, he'd easily be top 3. His berliners were amazing.

I work off Yamato. Love BoM.

You're hilarious. Enjoy your time. Look for King Fox brewery. I believe the brewer said he's doing a Dry Hopped Mosiac Peach Berliner. They've got crazy skills and not one of his beers have any off notes, even when the beers leave the brewery! Amazing!

The main owner with all the recipes as you may know is Bill O'Shea. He does spot on Belgian singles through quads. You are probably talking about Kevin who originally was brewing for Ryan Sentz over at the Funky Buddha Lounge before they had the big brewery in Oakland Park and then Kevin went to Due South before becoming the head brewer at BoM. I'm sure he could brew a good Berliner but Bill isn't going for it. The FB lounge did however have their second sour fest a couple months ago and a few of the Berliners were outstanding. They had a Berry Patch Berliner that may have been the best sour beer I've ever had.
