@Sheppard to be honest, I didn't even look into it because I always get my kegs from this bottle shop. Like I said, he's been good to me so I go to him first for everything.

Name some. I have tried to buy kegs from Upland and had to go to Big Red who then ordered it from Upland. Did the 3 tier system go away?

Cool. I was strictly asking from an awareness perspective. I don't think it's wrong for a brewery to raise awareness of what they sell at the brewery. I do think there is something wrong if they're trying to pull business away from their retailers as well as gouging customers on prices.

Not just using them to store beer, but using them as a brew kettle (the slang term is keggle).

I put my beer in them for dispensing from my kegerator.

Jesus. God forbid you just buy a brew kettle and two hombrew specific kegs instead of trying to cheat the system lol.

Happens to me all the time.
Mostly for modeling gigs. They (brewery) ask me to pose with their prospective beers.
I think it's because I look as though I might drink a lot of beer.
And of course my dashing good looks don't hurt.

I've picked up kegs from Sun King, Triton and Flat 12. Bier brewer starting selling them as well (very limited availability I believe). Look at their websites... should have plenty of information about kegs to go.

I did, dropped the money for a Blichmann Boilermaker. But judging by discussion and pictures posted all over homebrew forums, tons of people haven't. And there is that constant debate about deposit = stealing.

Just telling you why it's a problem.

Oh I know I was just being sarcastic. I mean I get it is an expensive hobby but that is no excuse to steal the necessary supplies.

Sixpoint and a friend of mine exchanged some words over a not-so-favorable rating of Jammer on untappd, my personal interactions like that have been limited to the occasional toast when I've checked in a rare vintage of something.

I also heard back on them from them on this beer. They more than took care of me as customer...

OP, you mentioned a retailer on Untappd that sells kegs at cost. Why do they do this? If this is true and the brewer knows about them, I get why they are annoyed. I also get why their prices are lower than what you pay at the brewery. Tell us more...

@dougofthefuture 201 Central is a Harris Teeter spin off. They don't carry this specific brewery, though. They don't sell EVERYONE at cost. For instance, NoDa won't let them sell at cost

They reach out to you & ask for your informed opinion & you respond like a smart ass. Somewhere on this site there is a post asking why breweries don't seek out customer input-You are the reason.

I don't understand how the retailer price could be lower than the brewery. Help me understand please.

I was once contacted by a new beer bar through BA for writing an unflattering review. The person offered me a free meal to come back and reconsider. I turned him down on principle.

Checked in a Racer 5 on Untappd. Five minutes later I got a comment from Bear Republic Brewing Co. on my check in thanking me for the purchase with a resounding "Cheers Cary!" As a customer I thought it was a great moment which required little effort, effectively making me a fan of them for life (besides the fact that they make delicious brews). Kudos to them.

Not what I expected when I clicked this thread... As a brewer, I have contacted several people who have complained on here or Untappd. I normally apologize for them receiving a product they felt was subpar. If it was a real issue, I'll offer to meet them in my taproom to hang out, and I'll buy them a few pints. If they just didn't like the beer or were confused by it, I will direct them to a relevant article or review and then offer to buy them a pint if they are cool about it. However, to ask why you buoyed their beer from someone else seems rude, and somewhat hypocritical. If they only want you to buy beer directly, why distribute at all?

Also, as far as retail pricing from the brewery... We don't undercut bars or restaurants around us for our on site sales. As a result, our profit margins are much higher selling onsite than off, but that is not the intent of the pricing, rather a side effect. If we were to undercut them, they would (understandably) stop carrying out beer. That is standard here in Alabama.
