Hey... this is the Pacific forum...we're talking about the enigma of hype and it's not the place for you to come defend your beer, and I don't want your No Rules even for Velvet Merkin so GTFO!

 

This, combined with the fact that a lot of Midwest dudes have an inflated sense of how good their beer is. not trying to start a turf war or anything, but on many occasions I've seen Chicago dudes come into this forum or in trade requests just to shit on CA beer, which is pretty ridiculous when you think about it.

I've mostly stopped trading too. Though I still do if there's something I really want to try. I do feel like trading for IPAs when you live in Southern California is pointless (though I will give props to Tree House. they are making some great shit)

Yeah, I'm saying I wouldn't make that trade personally. I wouldn't even trade a Chocolate Rain for a 4 pack of KBS

I think this is more of a sign of the times. It's not so much regional as it is about people trying to win and maximize their value on every single trade. Hype up your own beer as much as possible so you can get as much as possible in return. It's a zero sum game that trading is heading down now. Much better off trying to find reliable, long term, trading partners.

 

I know and I hate it. Just makes me so picky about who I trade with. And I don't even trade much!

 

This is how I feel as well. That isn't to say there aren't a bunch of other places making great IPAs. But out of everything I've tried, I like our stuff the best.

 

There's always a new crop of noobs every year who have this distorted perception that somehow their hardships are somehow greater than everyone else. I'm so glad there's amazing local beer being released fairly regularly so that I don't have to trade with these busters.

 

In addition to Tree House I say that Other Half and Trillium are brewing IPA/DIPAs as good as anything on the west coast right now and I'm a huge supporter of west coast hoppiness.

Id say the California guys are onboard the same hype train, last I checked trade values of Velvet Speedway, Cable Car and Duck Duck Gooze anyway.

 

Thats' true...but Velvet didn't get it's 92 rating from out of towners...it was mostly CA guys.

Yeah. Sam Adams Octoberfest score a 3.66. I'm sure it's better.

This right here. The level greed/wanting to win in the trade forums these days is off putting. I haven't traded with a new person in a couple of months. I personnally try to make trades fair for both sides and balance out $4$. If I'm sending/receiving a rarer bottle, it's still $4$ I just make sure the trade is large enough to incorporate less rare bottles to balance out.

 

I'll take the Velvet Merkin, please, thank you. Also, now that I've moved from Santa Monica to Indiana, I would trade two KBS to snag a Chocolate Rain.
