    Punk IPA from Dan Murphy's

Think this is the first time I've had it post recipe-change. Very smooth now, with well integrated malt/hop character.

Having some Black Marlin later, shame there was no Big Eye to be seen

Edit: Old Punk was better though.

Gotta completely agree. Just had the Red Ale which is the best out of the four which includes the Pale, Bock and Strong. The kindest adjective I'd apply is inoffensive.

Strikes as a brewery that was one of the first on the US craft scene, but has since been left well and truly in the wake of the competition. I reckon more than half of Aussie craft brewers are doing better beer than these guys.

Yeh I thought this seasons beermason pack was pretty lame, mendocino seem like a strange thing to bother importing in small quantities, the balck heart beers, well atleast the weizen is infected, , I dont like old viscosity and its not saison weather,

Punk IPA changed recipes? Thought it was hardcore IPA that did...that was indeed a tasty beverage.

    SNPA for me tonight.

Used to drink Red Tail a lot when it first came to Colorado in the late 90's, I think. Loved that beer as for the time it was a big, hoppy red ale then. Have not had it in forever. had the Blue Heron and was not impressed

Yeah, probably makes for a skewed comparison when my last 6% Red Ale was Emerson's Oreti Red. We both know how scorchingly hoppy and malty that was.

I'm also thinking all the Mendocino beers (not just Red Tail) were a fair way past their prime.

kind of think that they have been passed by other US brewers. When I drank lots of it it was before Bear Republic and GF were on the map. Back then Fat Tire was the staple Amber ale at the time and a cult beer.
Think mendincino is more diverse now as they have a series of organic beers and they might be contract brewing kingfisher

Hardcore changed a while back. Punk IPA changed when they started bringing out cans. Punk seems to get better ratings now but I felt that its previous iteration was more for the hardcore hophead

Ticked off a happoshu tonight: Happoshu (Coedo Beniaka). One style to go.
Aside from the option of importing it myself, or a trip to the US, anyone know where I can get an American Malt Liquor?

Interesting that you say that as while it has changed, it actually contains more hops than it did before. It is just less bitter.

Yep, I agree. Definitely less bitter now, I'm pretty sure the previous recipe was more than 45 IBUs. Dry hopping is lovely but sometimes you do want some sting also.

The old recipe was awful. It was one of the worst IPA's I have ever had.
