I searched the web and was not able to find an answer, hopefully someone here will know.
I have a 750 of hanssens oude kriek and there is no "drink by date" There is no back label(if there ever was one) it appears a label was scraped off since there are bits of glue on the back.
There is however a notch in the side of the front label, and the D has a notch in it...not sure what this means either but perhaps it will lead me to the bottles age.
If anyone has any clue or can point me in the right direction, please do so. Thank you
    Cheers

Ask the store when they bought it. They don't date their bottles.

I did not buy it, it came into my possession through left overs in a BIF

Unless you know who sent it to you then there's no way to figure out the date.

hmm, this is a tricky one. B United might have an indirect answer for you. I bought a case 2 years ago(same date questions), and I bought a few bottles of Hanssens this past spring. I was told that B. United only receives shipments once in a while (last two were summer 2011 and spring 2012(not 100% on the accuracy of this info) and just sends out from the warehouse based on the shops order.

Best you can do is mark it with the date you received/purchased it and go from there. Its not like you will end up cellaring it for too long but there is a certain satisfaction in bragging about how old a bottle of gueuze is when you share it with your friends. :sunglasses:

    B. United has very helpful staff. I stumbled across a magnum of Hanssens gueuze last year that was stored in my local store's wine attic. I called B. United to find out more info on the vintage. The guy on the other end of the phone couldn't believe my luck. He said that it was last brought to the US once in 2002 in the magnum format, and was a blend of the 1999, 2000 and 2001 lambics. That was a good day.

Good news, cause I have one too. I bought mine in '06. You might want to put a gumband around the label. Mine fell off.

My that this helps with anyone's bottles in their cellar but I am at lord hobos as we speak, and the hanssens I ordered has a bottle dating system. It's November 2012
